For all the Stravanauts out there:
A colleague of mine in Grafton was at a loose end on Sunday morning, and strangely decided that this was a good idea ...

No, I can't think why either. But I have suggested that he creates a strava segment from it.

I am, thank you.

The video showed a 1/2 lap improvement over 10 laps on Wollongong's velodrome, which is 5% by my maths. A big claim

Wow. Nice soundtrack!
Wonder if they would do a comparison of their products vs , say Rotor QXLs and even in conjunction.
it does seems a pity that the would likely to exclude Speedplay as an option, I would think that would be the group most likely to adopt it

It looks like you might lose a bit of ground clearance if you fit them to your existing cranks.

Snake Oil
All of their evidence was anecdotal, there was no scientific data in there looking at power improvements etc. If they were serious about pushing this product as the latest and greatest product to ever hit the shelves of your LBS, they would fork out the money for some proper testing that isn't dependant on "feel" and "belief".
Watch the video with a critical question and listen for facts about it being faster, not people's perception. There are too many questions about how the study was performed, first up, it wasn't even single blinded let alone double blinded. Whenever they're talking about how people felt, they're making sure that you know the qualifications of the person who's on the bike, but the problem is, they're just an athelete. It's a fallacious appeal to authority.
When they have solid data to back up their claims which have been produced by an accredited lab under proper testing conditions, then I'll consider it an interesting product. Until then, I'll keep my money in my pocket.

I think that my intial assement may have been off, I thought about this on my way home last night and I think that this may be the highest order of snake oil, a perpetual motion machine.
This is what the idea reminded me of
The idea behind this device is that the weights on the right have greater leverage so they're able to pull the weights on the left up, the flip over at the top. Like all perpetual motion machines, it doesn't work.
The idea that these guys are proposing is something very similar, you're running a shorter crank on the up stroke, and a longer crank on the down stroke, much like the idea in that picture.
I'm not an engineer nor a physicist, so I could be wrong on this, so if anyone on here is in either of those two fields and wants to tell me that I'm wrong, feel free.

Ben,
I just bought speedplay pedals but I am not liking so far! Do they loosen up a bit? Or does anybody else have any experience with speedplay?

@TonyOC
It's likely you have over tightened the cleat screws. As they have loctite, they do not unscrew so you only need a 1/4 turn once you meet resistance.
I'm on my 4-5th set of cleats so have had a bit if practice setting them up.

@ Noel
Is it no good to unscrew now because of the glue? Have I ruined $50 cleats in an instant? Ouch! Haha

You can loosen them off a little. They will loosen over time though. I did the same with my first set of cleats. They were fine.

Can anyone recommend a good and reasonably priced timber floor polisher? Not a big job. Only need one room and a bit sanded and revarnished.

The real story is in the infield. We're looking at a bunch of kids, distraught in the middle because some mean old blokes have turned up and taken their bikes. The guy in white is a plain clothes cop and he's gunna bust them all.
