Am in Stroud this weekend for a wedding. Has anyone ridden around here before and can recommend a ride?

I've heard it can be a bit sketchy with dodgy roads and no shoulders?

Never ridden in the area, but can confirm dodgy roads and no shoulders. You'll be in the Great Lakes Shire, what else would you expect outside of Forster?
Excellent MTB territory though.

Suggest a return spin to Gloucester, stopping for coffee/brunch etc at roadies cafe or Perenti. Countryside = beautiful. Otherwise, not many options, as the roads to Gloucester Tops & Barrington Tops are unsealed

You could try Stroud to Bulahdelah via Booral and Girvan. Google tells me it's ~40km one way, with some nasty little hills between Girvan and Bulahdelah. You shouldn't get lost, just turn left at Booral. You'll know when you get there because there is a petrol station and a general store. And some sawmills. And Girvan, you'll know it when you see the 10-story high-rise in the middle of no-where. You can see it here (with some zooming) and also get a feel for what the road would be like.
