Thought I'd get a foam roller to do a bit of….foam rolling of the itb and back and whatever else I can think of. I am a bit overwhelmed by the choice. Any advice on what to go for - do I want the 'plain' one, grid, or bumpy one? The thick or thin one, long or short one? I also assume the type of foam it is made from will make a difference to how effective / painful / long it lasts. Any advice / links would be appreciated, of course the more budget friendly the better!

Can't help with which type is best, but I bought mine from www.physiosupplies.com.au

They seem to have a good range at reasonable prices.

I've got one that has a flat surface, is hard but with a little give and is a long one. It's good being long because I can lie on it on my back and stretch out my shoulders. The short ones are fine if you only want to roll out a limb or something. I got it from Rebel Sport I think.

Call me a cheapskate, but I made mine from a pool noodle and a rolling pin, bought from a $2 shop.
I've still got most of the noodle if you want it.p

Or a noodle around a length of PVC pipe then cut it into lengths and sell them. Cottage industry in the making. What I want to know is what are these rollers for? Is this another exercise fad I've missed?

Self massage Philip. Or self torture. Or both.

I have one long smooth roller and one that looks like a meat tenderiser. The smooth one is good for rolling out tendons and the rough one is good for a bit of a massage (or torture). Then a tennis ball is probably cheapest an good to start out on. Move up to a cricket ball (or rolling pin)
