Earn $50 and have your skinfolds/bodyfat assessment done

Hi Everyone,

I am running a Level 1 Anthropometry Course (skinfold & body fat course for health professionals) through my physiotherapy and exercise clinic this weekend.

We need some people to be subjects for the practice session and prac exam this Sunday 28th July.

The practice and prac exam involves skinfold calipers to take 8 skinfolds from different sites around your body, height, weight and girth measures. How lean you are is directly related to cycling performance so the application/usefulness of this to cyclists is very relevant. Elite cyclists (NRS etc) and serious recreational cyclists will find this a very powerful tool as part of their training to benchmark progress and performance. You will get your sum of 7 skinfolds which is used across all institutes and academies here in Australia.

It is 3-4 hours of your time in return you get $50 and one of the course instructors (myself or another instructor) will do your skinfolds for you, which includes a 1 page report printout for you to take away.

If you are keen can you PM me or email scott@bounceclinic.com.au

Cheers

Thanks to the DHBC members who donated their bodies to science yesterday at the Anthropometry Course.

It was a big help for the people doing the course and for their prac exams. For the members who didn't come yesterday and enquired about the skinfolds and its relationship to cycling and performance I found a great article from Cycling Tips. This helps put it into perspective and where it may fit for your situation.

Scott, thanks a lot for the day!

I must say the process was quite interesting, makes sense how it all works and I can see that it would be a useful way of monitoring the progress of a training program. I've been reading up about it recently. I was a bit surprised by my results, makes me feel like I should actually start training properly (and eating properly...) and I might actually have a little potential.

Also interesting that you mentioned that private health cover with extras could offer a rebate on getting measured up.

Thanks also to Scott.
I went along to the morning session last Sunday week.
I volunteered out of curiosity as I've dropped a couple of kgs last few months and have been feeling lean and riding well as I head to what I would call racing weight for me, around 68kg.
It was quite enlightening. In Scott's words I have 'optimised performance due to body composition'. I didn't realise I was so lean even though people told me so.
The way I see it is I don't want to be any leaner or I'll just put myself at a higher risk of sickness. I'm now focused on not getting any leaner especially as I'm doing more intensity. I'll be following up with a retest as the season progresses.

Cheers,
Mark

Mark.....your earlobes are possibly the only skin fat area they could have possibly got calipers on.

While not concerned about fat levels, I am interested in where the fat is postioned
