Hi All,

It’s 5 and half weeks since Greg’s accident and he continues to progress nicely.

Yesterday he posted on Facebook , it even made sense – I think most of you saw it and commented or Liked. I just spoke to him a few minutes ago and he sounded remarkably normal – the slur is mostly gone, he’s a touch slower than normal but not massively so.

On Sunday he is going home for a few hours. This is a pretty big step forward and Greg sounds pretty pleased about it. (I did ask Sue if he was making it up).

The food is horrible at the Centre. Does anyone have a spare bar fridge? It would be good if he could store some food in his room.

He still is classified as having Post Traumatic Amnesia and he keeps scoring 10 or 11 out of 12 in his daily tests. He needs to get 12 out of 12 for 3 days in a row before he’s officially over it and they can start the parts of his rehab that require him to remember.

He is quite mobile now, he can walk several hundred metres at a time. He needs to wear a belt that allows his carers to hold onto him whilst he walks as he’s still not super steady on his feet. His left hand is still a little uncoordinated – he can catch a ball only with the right hand side.

I think he will have to focus now on relearning things – he was struggling to remember how to take his daughter to school and other similar tasks. It will take him but that’s what the centre specialises in.

Anyway that’s about it…..hopefully he can start writing his own updates soon.

Greg enjoys having visitors. He also wants to borrow the following DVDs:

Any good sport stuff, especially cycling,

Comedy or lightstuff,

and Fishing.

So have a look through your collections.


So go and visit when you can. He thinks he will be there for another 4-6 weeks.

Rehab is proving a long haul, thankfully I have a leaving date, Tuesday the 7th of May. This makes rehab seem more bearable knowing that escape is at hand.

I keep my days busy with activities such as improving my typing skills which have eroded rather badly and other key life skills like putting pegs in holes. I also do a running group, daily physio, lots of walking and I’ll be put on a bike this Wednesday - I’ve got a new helmet.

The rehab is going well though the quick improvements have been realised so it feels a bit more like a graft. However today I did secure the ability to go down the road to the shops unaccompanied, so I’m still making a few wins. The visitors and weekend home visits make it bearable and I’m striving to make the most of my time here. I got see both my children play soccer on the weekend and partake in a coffee shop breakfast. I love those times because I stop feeling like a patient for a while.

The odds on a big party after the 7th of May are short but the details are to be confirmed.
