Does a unicycle count as a novelty? or is it discounted because it fails in the basic test of the number of wheels?

Unicycle is most certainly a novelty.
The registration forms will be available in the next week or so.

Sorry people. There is a miss spelling in Concourse event number iv. 'Ra' should read 'Rat'.
In other words, there is a prize for the crappiest but still very functional bike.

Women even.

NB a unicycle is not a bicycle. By definition :-)

If you want, I can drop word of this event to some in the Sydney Unicycling Community to see if they're interested in coming along and taking part in a race. Unicycles aren't fast enough to use the banking, so they would have to race around the flat section of the track.

There's a community of them?

I'm definitely growing a beard so I can come and watch this - but only if they race using the banking of the velodrome.

And they have to be wearing red noses, rainbow coloured hair and squirty lapel flowers.

I think the plan is to distribute information as widely as possible. The typo's got to be fixed first.

Everything has been lined up.
Registration forms for the Concourse event and the Swap Meet are ready to be distributed. We are presently awaiting the placement of these forms on the DHBC website. This will enable us to open up the registration process. Will then include this URL address on the poster above, Facebook page and media releases.
Thanks to Adrian E, there are plans to place these posters at several prominent bicycle shops in Sydney.

That's a good tune Lizanne!

The facebook page is at: http://www.facebook.com/SydneyClassicBicycleShow
If anyone on wants to send some pics of their classic bikes to place on the page, you can email them to me at: adrian.emilsen@gmail.com

It would be a good idea to get the posters out ASAP. I'm happy to do a drop off this Friday (assuming its not raining!) but I think they need to be printed in colour if you want them to be put in shops. Does anyone have a colour printer to run off say 10-20 copies in A4?

Please get in touch.

It doesnt have to be steel. Although steel is preferred.
Remember we have a Concourse category for Road bicycles 1986 to present. That would include carbon.

A handmade/made-to-measure bike like your Baum is destined to be a 'classic'.

For $300, it's yours!
I saw this same bike on Gumtree and immediately thought of the Classic Bicycle Show.

Would be great if someone is able to do a good vid of the days events. Great to post it on our website, DHBC Facebook page or even YouTube.
Photographers also very welcome.

But it might mean I can't do other stuff. How are we doing with volunteers?

Please add name to list. We need people to help out with crowd control and providing info at both the Concourse competition area and the Swap Meet stalls.

Concourse event: This will be held on the green inside the track. Access will be thru the underground tunnel. Duties include providing info to visitors (sheet of instructions will be given) and crowd control. Main responsibility is to make sure no one walks out onto the track when the track demos are being run.

Swap Meet event: Not so many needed here. Probably 1 or 2 people at any one time. Mainly for crowd control and providing info.

Need many more to help out. I will need to do a roster.

Volunteers to date:

Lizanne W (both Concourse and Swap meet stalls)
John J (Concourse)
Svetlana (both Concourse and Swap meet stalls)
Jo S (both Concourse and Swap meet stalls)
Karzie (video)
Roger W (Concourse)
Timothy Clifford (photos)

I'm assuming there will be a canteen of sorts? What are we selling? re sausages - marinated chicken wings might be good for a change / addition but may be hard to price I guess (I can do some fabo Thai style ones if required) and some veggie burgers maybe? Is there a food / canteen coordinator?

Discussion about the BBQ at the committee meetings gave me the impression that it would be a pretty similar arrangement to the recent track meet (of course minus the tummy bug).

I just spoke to Sasha from M'ville Cafe this morning after Slowies. He very generously said that he has a spare machine which he can set up at the show. He also made another very generous offer which I don't want to hold him to at the moment. Will let all know as we get closer to the date. Need to discuss with the DHBC committee first.

So we will have a BBQ, Stuart's Thai yummies and caffeine. Hope that is enough.

So that's a yes for the Chook Wings? How many kg's do we need? How will they be priced? there's about 10 wings per kilo give or take. I'll need to pre-cook them in an oven and then BBQ on-site for the last bit or they take ages and will burn, not cook.

Nice touch Philip. Tempted to print it out and hang it up next to my bike collection :)

BTW, we got heaps of last minute Concour event entries. Came through the DHBC PO Box in the last day or so. Not sure how many bike we have in the Concour event but think it is well over 40.

As for the Swap meet, will confirm the number of stall regos today, but my feeling is over 10.

Going to be a busy day for all.

Thanks to everyone for making the first Sydney Classic Bicycle Show a resounding success. Hard to say, but some believe we had about 300 to 600 people attend throughout the day. Over 45 bikes in the concour event and 16 or more stalls. Everyone was happy. Not to mention the roaring trade had by the BBQ, soft drinks and cafe. The queues I was told were massive. At one point a fellow club member exclaimed (I paraphrase here), "Why are there so many people here? It's only old bikes?".
The Madison track race was enthralling, Dougie and Tim L's commentary entertaining and the concour judges were so dedicated.
Many thanks to all the vollies. You know who you are, see associated DHBC forum thread. Let's do this again next year. DHBC is a great club.
Regards, Marc.

Ahh point of order Mr Speaker. Whilst I thank the Honourable Member for Hurlstone Park for his fine remarks I do wish to set the record straight with regard to the Madison Commentary. Expert Commentary for the Madison was provided by DHBC's very own "Roy and HG", Simon Sharwood and Tim L. I wouldn't know a Madison if i tripped over one. The boys' performance certainly put Crafty on Notice! Simon and Tim's dulcet tones were the highlight of the Day.

Great effort by all. Super event.

As of this morning there has been a massive spike in our FB stats; peaking at almost 4,900 (reach) and 233 people are 'talking about' us at the present moment. Seems to be increasing too.
In the week before we peaked at 3,600 (reach) and 132 (talking) respectively. I think there are lots of people out there who are really happy with the outcome.

Thanks to the organisers and volunteers or putting on a great show. It was my first foray into steel and all i can say is that i am in love. That black Guerciotti was just stunning.

Looking forward to next years show.

Cheers

Probably because we did a massive pushout through twitter with a link to the fb page on Thursday and Friday. Got lots of people locally and in the cycling community to RT and ... looks like it worked!

the points on the graph are a week count not a day, so all the views in the week leading up to the show, will keep the graph rising for another week or so, then it will drop again.
and ya, as Eleri said. the DHBC twitter account did get quite a few people to tweet the fb page for us.

regardless, i'm still on a high from the turnout we had! woo!

Well done to all involved in organising the day. I was also very impressed by the Madison. 90 laps on a hot day was a big effort.

Did anyone happen to get the details of the guy who was selling that beautifully restored Colnago Master steel bike. I am suffering from an N + 1 dilemma.

Show Day was a success and very good to be involved in.

We sold out on the Sydney Classic Bicycle Show T shirts designed by Michele Wood. There were enough orders taken on the day to make up a second and final print run.

So that's what we will do.

This will still be a small run, but this time people interested can order a size to suit in Black or Red.

Cost is $30 with $5 going to the Club.

Mens sizes are S, M, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL. If you like a loose fit get one size up from your usual size. They are slim fit.

Womens Sizes 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18.

Those who ordered on Show Day are already part of this order.

If you would like a T shirt from the event, please PM me this week.

We attracted all sorts including one old gentleman claiming to be a racer back in the old days.
Some of you might recognise him .......

We should consider giving a cert or recognition of sort to some of the judges, especially the ones NOT from our club.
They did a herculean effort 'judging' in excess of 45 bikes in 2 hours. Maybe a letter of thanks for the DHBC exec comm?

I wonder if that old lady with him was actually his wife or whether she came along dressed up like that as a bit of a lark?
We should've got her to start the Madison with a shotgun in the traditional method (long abandoned).

Maybe we should invite them back for next year. They obviously love to dress up and indulge in the time honored DHBC tradition of exaggeration and bullshitting. They're our sort of people.

Some photos from the day. I think I managed to take at least one shot of every bike entered. If you have any details of people or bikes in the photos, please let me know the photo and the details.

Just been getting a good feel of the aftermath of the bike show and one thing surprises me; there is so much love!!
Not being wanky here, but too many of these matey blokey types are saying how much they loved the experience and how nice and kind everyone was. Not just the DHBC but everyone who came for the event. It was like one big love fest. Beginning to see it as one big male bonding session (sorry girls). Am sure this will level out next year.
The love is flowing man. I feel so hippy now.

The Facebook numbers keep climbing. The 'reach' is now over 6,700 and people 'talking about us' is at 266.
This climb began one day after the show.
I've since been told it is probably people logging in to have a sticky beak at the photos, commentary and videos.
