Discovering that Waterfall is fun

As a newbie I just thought it was worth saying what fun my first waterfall ride was.

I had it built up in my mind as a huge challenge that had to be slowly worked towards. I know that 25s isn't a hard pace - but it was so good to find that all the concern was unnecessary. Really enjoyable, lovely day, great company and support! And thanks Stuart for sitting on the front the entire time!

The main lesson I take away is that it probably isn't recommended to have a clip stack to start your very first time - and quite early too.

Adam....it's fantastic that you have now succumbed to wearing Lycra, riding a road bike, and now going to Waterfall. You are well and truly in!! Don't worry about the the clip stack - every body does it at least once (or twice). I heard you were really strong up the hills today, so well done. Given Eleri, Camilla and I are in the very select club called "The wives, that aren't actually wives (partners have not proposed) that can beat their husbands"...if you start beating Eleri - she will have to be ousted, or get extra hill training.

I have the technology and the knowledge to sabotage his ride.

Seriously Adam rode really well today. I sat on the back of the bunch for most of the ride and he never once looked like he was struggling or tired or anything.

Nice one Adam! I'm not at all surprised you didn't find it too difficult. Can't wait to see you on a road bike (riding off into the distance).

And just for the record Jo, Ted did try proposing once - but whatever I was drinking at the time came out my nose and now he just keeps it for a party trick.

Confirmed. Although Camilla is in fact currently on two strikes, not one.

I think we will have to have an official name like "The NOT Wives Club". I could put out a challenge, but I think it will only make us woman stronger. The challenge being if ever you blokes ever beat your respective spouses in a race - you'll have to marry them.

That's sure to keep us training hard forever Jo! According to SMH, Eleri's already married anyway.

The male partners could also be known as the DHBC HABS Husbands and Boyfriends (instead of the more commonly known WAGS) and could accompany, resplendent in lycra of course, their talented female sporting partners to award presentations.

Move over Lara Bingle ..... I can see the cover of Who Magazine now......

Actually that's a mental picture that I just didn't need

Hmm, I'm already a MAMIL, and don't know if I want to be a HAB as well. (Colleagues at work, who've come from overseas, tell me that Australia is acronym-crazed).

So if I was to DHBC hook up, would that be an automatic marriage?

There's a flaw in your argument there Richard - it would need to be PABS - Partners And BoyfriendS as the whole issue is we're not actually married, in the eyes of the church and state (insert whaling and gnashing of teeth).

And I can tell ya, I'm happy being the slower half and cannot see the day that I'm ever faster than Joanne (except downhill).

Also, Adam is pretty speedy when riding my spare road bike, which I swear is too big for him - wait till be gets one that actually fits him and then Eleri may be in trouble!

I would have thought you would have been against whaling Stuart. ;)

That bike is too big for Adam. He has to go shopping. Anyone want to go shopping with him? I'll be too busy training to ensure I don't get beaten. I ain't marrying any 60 yr old bloke so he can have a trophy wife.

Got plans we need to know about?

Is there such a thing as a trophy defacto? A new name for our club. The Trophy Defacto Club. Doesn't "Trophy" imply that we are hot looking show pieces....that so sounds like us girls.

I can see a new event to be added to the DHBC Criterium Championship - The Altar Dash (sounds a bit like balderdash)

A true handicap race where the results will be more hotly contested (either on the finish line or in a court of law) than a TDF win by Alberto Contador.

Appeals can always be made to CAS and drug testing will be mandatory. ie you would not partake this risky event without having some form of Dutch courage in the system

Where did the shopping thing come from? I understand about not beating Eleri (actually that could have been put better). But why is the alternative shopping?

I don't think Mike was asking you Lizanne so no need to apologize. Although....what a perfect couple you & Mike would make. Between the 4,200+ km per week you both ride - you probably would never see each other - except on the road. A perfect DHBC matchup. But I guess the boyfriend is a slight roadblock.

 yeah well, I thought about the spelling for ages (I am a bad speller) and even googled it and found reference to 'whaling' being used to describe wailing, but I guess I was wrong. See there, I can spell it now!

I was puzzled too - thought you meant whaling in the sense of "whaling on" i.e. punching etc.

A month or so ago, in a rare bout of insomnia, I saw an amazing documentary on 19th century American whaling, the origin of the Moby Dick story and Hermann Melville's experiences on whaling boats. Thus I was pretty excited when there was a dramatisation of Moby Dick over two Sunday nights this month. What a completely cheesy turkey it was! I know that Donald Sutherland will do anything for a dollar, but William Hurt, Ethan Hawke, Gillian Anderson? What were they thinking?

I'm a good catch, with the size of my house, its virtually impossible to reach R-1
