I'm planning to do this ride next Saturday.
http://audax.org.au/public/index.php?op ... Itemid=191
If you're interested joining me, let me know. I'm aiming to do it at a moderate pace. I've done most of these roads before and its a very beautiful ride.

Sounds fun. Let's hammer it!
Also, I like that there's a park near the finish. If I run bare foot in it for couple of hours, it will make an excellent brick session.

How do you plan on getting there? By train? At wot time would you leave to reach hornsby by 6:30? pm me your mobile and we can organise it.

Fluoro budgie smugglers aren't enough to satisfy their safety clothing requirements.

A few showers should be ok
http://www.bom.gov.au/weather/nsw/forec ... dney.shtml
The last time I did an Audax 200 ride it too around 8 hrs.

G - in terms of getting there, I'd be riding to Hornsby from Lane Cove. I'd suggest getting the first Newcastle Express. You could also drive. Parking isn't hard in Hornsby on a Sunday.

If it is going to rain, would they allow budgie smugglers?

How does these races work? Do people ride in bunches or break away/fall behind and go for individual tt? How many people ride? Are there any serious climbs in the race?

How strict is the requirement of reflective clothing? I don't have anything more reflective than budgie smugglers really.

Peter I thought you were dead! You never pick up the phone. How was husky? I heard you rode to husky on saturday and then hammered the long course on Sunday? You must be ready for the big day at Port.

Just spoke to Gary from Audax. He said it is a budgie smuggler friendly ride. So come wearing colourful budgie smugglers. Wot colour are you wearing Adrian?

Yes all good at Huskie. Had to pull out of the Token 12hr this weekend so I'm looking at this ride as a replacement but all these safety things have got me buggered, are up for two sets of lights.

Naa mate, Gary said no dramas if you enter in the lower max time option. You don't even need reflective clothing.

Peter, I am thinking of a couple of hours run after the ride at the big park near the finish line. It will be motivating for me if you also join for the run?!

Ok G, I'm in, and I'll bring my shoes for after the ride.

I don't have a bike rack on my car, but I'll email my address to you and you can come over on Friday and we'll see if we fit it in to save you catching the train if you like.

Also Adrian I can't get that link for the Grapevine ride to work, could you check it, thanks.

Well, that was a fun ride. I think G is the first randonnée in the history of Audax to complete a 200km brevet in budgy smugglers. The ride headed off a good pace with around 10-15 riders including G, Peter and myself in the lead group. We headed out to Wisemans Ferry via Galston and Cattai, then around the Hawesbury through Spencer then all the way up to Kulnurra north of Central Mangrove. I punctured just out of Wisemans and didn't see G and Peter for around 50km where we regrouped at the second checkpoint. The route was very scenic with lots of national parks and windy roads. There was almost no traffic and only a couple of Gosford bogans who showed some interested in G's attire. On the way back we came down Mangrove Mtn Road then onto the Old Pacific Hwy for the thrid cheakpoint at Mount White Cafe. I flated again on the climb up from Brooklyn. On closer inspection I found my tyres are worn to the thread and had to deposit a 10 note to get me home.

Was a cool ride... was knackered! Peter and I went for a run after the ride. Despite Peter's ankle injury, he was flying, while I was struggling to keep a 5min/km pace. Like some triathletes would put it, it was as painful as delivering a rhino baby. I don't know how I am going to run a bloody marathon after 4km swim and 180km bike ride. I am assured it is going to be the most challenging thing I have ever done (hint Anthony! Tour de disneyland seems easier).

I think the funniest moment was when I walked into a police station - the last check point of Audax ride - looking something like this. The coppers said no one has ever walked into a police station looking like this. Call me a dork, but I did it! :P
