10th Annual Fixie Century - 6th November2016

The much anticipated 10th Annual DHBC Fixie Century is upon us!

Sunday 06 November 2016
2016 will see the historic 10th edition of the Club's now traditional ride: an imperial century (161kms) from Bundanoon to the Tempe Velodrome. Followed by some well-earned refreshment at the German Club, and (maybe - YMMV) "the people's ovation and fame forever".

We usually stay at the Bundanoon Hotel on the Saturday night, dine in their bistro, wander down to check out the glowworms, then conduct the Annual DHBC Late Night Snooker Pairs Championships (current titleholders Norman, C. & Belford, A.).

http://www.bundanoonhotel.com.au/

We've spoken to the hotel and reserved a number of rooms. Once we've got numbers I'll confirm everything, so no need to ring them directly. Most rooms are twin-share, but there are some doubles also.

Entry requirements:
• Must have a cycling Australia recognized license and be part of an Australian bike club and if not a DHBC member must be able to prove such before starting
• Must be 18+ years of age and fit enough to complete the designated distance (strong 28s riders and above, with a penchant for endurance). If you haven’t before ridden a Fixie Century don't be offended if we ask you a few questions
• If any known medical conditions must consult your General Practitioner on your health and be cleared to start

Bike requirements:
• All bikes must be fixed with one single gear. Gears can be changed if a flip flop hub is available during ride. No freewheels allowed
• All bikes must have 2 working brakes and enough brake pad to be safe
• Steel is real baby.

Ride Rules:
• All riders must comply with road rules at all times
• All riders are responsible for their own safety and if not up to the distance must get themselves home
• Riders must comply with bunch rules and ride rules when needed
• Australian standard helmet must be worn at all times, by all riders

We also need someone to act as support (i.e. drive the route, carry the riders' bags back to Sydney and pick up anyone who blows up along the way). This may suit one or two who only wish to ride part of the journey, but would still like to be part of the fun.

Last year we took this inland route (via Bowral, Picton, and old Razorback). We'll do the same this year, but maybe with some fine-tuning of the route. To Be Advised.

Don't miss out! Add your name to the list to join in the fun! An early indication of interest (even if not 100% definite) would be appreciated, as we need to give the hotel some idea of numbers by Tuesday 04 October.

Due to the date being too close to the birth of my child, I can't be away overnight. It might be possible to meet partway on Sunday and ride half of it.

So my 58cm fixie is available for a loan for someone else. Let me know if you'd like to ride. (I have a second fixie to use if I ride half)

Just pointing out that this is the same day as the 'Gong ride. Which I think is the norm, right?

The last few years I think the Fixie Century has been a week or so earlier. The date for this year's event was determined by availability of accommodation at Bundanoon. Hopefully the decision is easy for anybody choosing between the two!

Yes! Would be a good idea to take it too Slowies a couple of times to get used to riding on the road. Also gearing will be somewhat easier than you would use for the track.

I've spoken to a few of you who are considering participating in this iconic event.

I'd like to advise the hotel early next week of probable numbers, so could you please post here, or let me know otherwise if you're likely to make it, even if not 100% at this stage.

Thanks,
Andrew

We should organise a 'Geary Century' from Sydney to Bundanoon on the Saturday and those people can drive the cars home after staying over on the Saturday night.

Actually I have wanted to organise something like this for a while after seeing SSCC's annual Bundanoon ride (+ club hill climb champs up Mac Pass). I wouldn't be able to make it this year but I think the idea could work. Sorry to hijack.

I'm catching the 6.12pm train from Central to Bundanoon Saturday evening. The bike has to be in a box for this train and you have to pre-book.

Are there any plans for an 11th annual fixie centry this year?

I've been asking too, and there doesn't seem to be anymore interest. I've already done my fixie century for this year (just an urban one, when the spring cycle was on).

If you're keen, be happy to do another one.

I'll be in Jindabyne that day - it's the day after L'Etape. But don't change it on my account.
