The next DHBC Adventure Ride incorporates some of the most breathtaking views in Sydney.

We'll ride across the Harbour Bridge; then out to Bradleys Head, Taronga Zoo wharf and Chowder Bay; then across the Spit Bridge, through Seaforth and out to North Head; then stop for coffee / breakfast at The Boathouse Shelly Beach (http://www.theboathousesb.com.au); then return to Marrickville via the City.

Please note that this ride includes a number of climbs which, together, do add up. That is the price you pay for spectacular views. However, none of the climbs, individually, are too scary, and we'll wait at the top of all hills. This is a 'no drop' ride, and we'll ride at the pace of the slowest rider.

Details as follows:

Ride: Mosman Hills & Northern Headlands

Start: Marrickville (post office square) at 6:00am

Route: https://www.strava.com/routes/3227088

Pace / effort: C25s / C28s

Distance: ~77km

Elevation gain: ~1,750m

Finish: City at ~10:30am / Marrickville at ~11:00am

Notes: Please bring 2 x spare tubes, pump, water, snacks + money for coffee / breakfast

Do we know whether the Cycleway over SHB will be closed while the road is closed for the Blackmores Marathon?

Eek. Bradfield park and surrounds will be chokers even if the bike path is open

you may wish to consider the Bike Path across the Gladesville bridge and then on through Greenwich. There are couple of impressive hills to add to your tally

Hi Anthony,

Good question.

I've made a couple of phone calls. The SHB cycleway will be open. We'll need to be mindful when we get to the northern (Kirribilli) side, as that's where the runners etc will be congregating. Our ETA there (~6:30) will be after the start time for the half marathon (6:15) and before the start time for the full marathon (7:15), so we should be OK. Notwithstanding, it's expected to be busy, so we'll need to walk our bikes through any crowds until it's safe to jump back on. In relation to incidental road closures / diversions etc, we'll play it by ear and follow any relevant instructions from people on the ground.

Cheers
Paul

You will be shocked how many people are milling around just there. They run up the road that you will want to take to North Sydney. And there will be people along side the start, ready to cheer on friends and family.

You could go the other way through Kirribilli and miss that.

Been involved in the Running Festival for a number of years and again this year. I can inform that,

1) The SHB will be open throughout the event, as us event riders use it to get to the start line marshalling area.

2) The west side of the bridge (Alfred St) at Milsons Point will be barriered off and full of runners and course equipments. Suggest that you move to the east side of the bridge once off the cycleway via Burton St underpass. You'll be able use Broughton St and the back streets to access Military Rd in Neutral Bay. If you do arrive at or around 6:30, you'll likely to come across our group (including a number of DHBC riders) and there's a chance you'll be able to squeeze through on Alfred St, behind the half-marathon runners. But not ideal as it's subject to police/course marshalls' discretion.

Have a fun ride!

Thank Weiyun!
Our proposed route already takes us through the arch to the eastern side of the bridge and we have no intention of going near Alfred St.
So hopefully there'll be minimal inconvenience for all concerned :-)
See you on the road,
Peter

Alfred St to the north of Burton is actually not an issue as the participant marshalling area is to the south of Burton on Alfred. So it's a clear run up Alfred from Burton, where the start line is located. As said, it's best to just go on the east side for the morning. Also note, there are various road closures in the CBD. Plan your route in accordingly unless you have an event vehicle pass.
