From talk around the traps, there is likely to be a substantial DHBC contingent. I'm willing to organise a lodge on behalf of the club if we can get enough people interested. Probably one that is self-catering with a substantial kitchen.

Lots of lodges have twin and triple share rooms. No need to name your roomie now but a sense of willingness to share will be a good thing.

Is it the done thing to bring along a non-club family member? I've signed up to do L'Etape with my brother (president of the Macksville CC, has ridden with DHBC a couple of times). That would bring the list to ...

I've entered the "race" as it's the longer, more challenging ride. It's a timed event but I don't think it can officially be a race otherwise everyone would have to have race licenses etc.
Of course some people will finish more quickly than others :D

Where do people stay for this race ... do they stay Jindabyne or Thredbo and then drive?
There's not a lot in Crackenback itself, the following are two examples ... there are much cheaper places in Thredbo

4 pax @ about $125 each (for 2 nights)
http://www.stayz.com.au/accommodation/n ... ack/162224

18 pax @ about $150 each (for 3 nights min)

I'm planning to get a place or places in Jindabyne where it starts and finishes. No point driving to the start!

This weekend I've got a bit of time so I'll get down to some serious planning. Anyone else who wants to be in, better put their name down .

Eleri - it starts at the Crackenback ski tube, finishes at the Smiggins Hole end of the ski tube ... presumably they shuttle you back on it: http://letapeaustralia.com/wp-content/u ... Map-V1.pdf.

That said Jindabyne is only 10km from Crackenback ... probably better pubs there too :o

No pubs in Crackenback that I know of, although there is a Schnapps Distillery. Not much in the way of accommodation, or anything really. Certainly no shops.

Unfortunately there's a bit of a pointless hill between Jindabyne and Crackenback. I hadn't realised it started there. Still, I reckon Jindabyne is our best option.

I've found a lodge that accommodates up to 24 if 2 couples cosy up or 22 if everyone wants their own bed. 8 bedrooms all up and a couple of bathrooms.

Got a big kitchen and stuff.

It's in Jindabyne and looks to be walking distance to the shops.

Reckon I'll just book it unless someone has a better idea. Arrive Friday 2nd and checkout on Sunday 4th aiming for noon.

I think book it. We already have 15 confirmed. I'm sure we'll get a few more entrants and partners on the list.

Thanks Eleri!

I know of 2 others (non-club) looking for shared accommodation if we need more to fill.

What's the normal etiquette here, does everyone stump-up up front, or does some one (eg. Eleri) pay the deposit and carry the risk :P

The committee agreed to pay the deposit and I'll get everyone to pay the club. There's a couple more club people who have told me they intend to join in. I'm sure we will make the numbers from the club at this point.

The accommodation is booked and confirmed. You will need to secure your place with a $35 per head deposit before 31st July.

Please transfer this to the club bank a/c before the due date with your name and include SNOW (e.g. SnowEleri) That way we can track the payments.

It would be great if my mate and I can also get accommodation. If not no worries.

Don't forget to pay your deposit to secure your bed. Due end July latest.

I realise that I'm months late on this thread but thought that I would just put it out there that I'm keen to stay with the DHBC crew for the L'etape event in December. If there's any late cancellations, I'll put my hand up to take the spot.

Cheers,

Hi guys,

I'll drop off this list (as my wife now wants to come along, so we'll arrange accommodation separately), so happy for one of the short-listed people to take my place

Will still be keen to meet up with people for dinner etc

Hi all,

My mate and I are unable to attend the race this year so our accommodation under the name "Tim G + mate" is now available.

I can still pay if you guys are short on numbers.

Update on the accommodation. Well, there's been a bit of a SNAFU and the Blizzard Bunny Lodge went a bit feral on us and the wrong dates got booked - right dates got ordered, but a slip between order and booking went unnoticed til last week. But ...

Good news: I noticed before we actually turned up on the day and a solution has been found
Bad news: there's a price hike as a consequence.

We are now in 4 houses in the same vicinity and they've been secured for the right dates. The original price was about $70 each for 2 nights, will now be $135 each for 2 nights. Please let me know ASAP if this is not OK and we can work something out. My email is eleri@ozemail.com.au

If that is OK, then please make your final payment of $100 ($135 minus $35 already paid) to the DHBC bank a/c . Please put your name and SNOW.

I've sent an email to everyone I think is going just now with details of where we are staying. If you didn't get this email, let me know ASAP.

Paid in full now. Thanks Eleri. btw, I didn't put 'willing to share', but of course I am.
Next, is anyone driving down with room for an extra bike - and a person?

There's a couple of places available now due to late withdrawals. Anyone interested?

What time are people hoping to arrive in Jindabyne? And is anyone going to have a ride to stretch the legs on Friday?
And 1 last thing, what will be the better option to get to the start, drive there or catch the shuttle bus?

Am guessing most people got the rider's guide, but here's a link if not: http://v3au.zone-secure.net/drive/6594/ ... 40#page=15

Things worth noting include arrangements for bag drops (for warm clothes to be taken to the end of the ride), time limits (the sag wagon will travel at 20 km/h, allowing ~8 hrs to complete the race) and the rather interesting rule prohibiting people from riding to the start ...

Hi

I am doing the ride and I have attached a profile from mapmyride of the course for people information. Does not seem too intimidating! Those doing the race will know the profile of the last 30 kms. Not sure if adding the pdf worked.

How are people getting to Bullocks flat on the morning of the 3rd? Bus or driving down. They wont let us ride down according to the Riders Guide?

Best of luck to everyone.

Michael

So. What was it actually like? From on-line accounts it was pretty brutal?

Can't speak for the others but for me it was, hot and windy and I was glad to see people in the race walked Beloka, because nearly everyone I saw in the ride walked some part of it.

If you want to see some video of DHBC in motion in the race watch this at about 2:11 https://youtu.be/HTw4w_lyi8A
