Contact CNSW and tell them that you couldn't get the page to work last night, they are pretty good with these things and will resolve it.

And there was a box to fill in where you put your handicap feedback, so I gave a details about my handicap at Ken Dinnerval...

I saw that box too! Hopefully the feedback gets through, we don't want another dinnerville or wagga occurring!

Hopefully my new license arrives in time! I've entered the 70km Masters. See y'all there!

Also, I think the date of this thread is wrong. Sunday is the 20th.

Contact CNSW and get it corrected.

It's not obvious when you go to the entry page, I'm sure you won't be the only person entered the wrong event

Handicaps are up

Some favourable and not so favourable ones in there. I think it's getting closer to reality which is a bonus!

Noel, I'd say you will do well riding 8 minutes after limit. You'll have your work cut out catching John and Andrew!

A couple of former pro's riding in Peter Milostic and Eddie Salas :/

Sorry to hear that John. I hope you don't mind if I assume your identity for the handicap?

No probs but you might need to wear a fat suit to pull it off. Good luck in the race!

That's a shame John, James I think I should have dibs on John's spot.
I've pleaded my case via email with Cycling NSW and been moved to bunch 7 ( still not limit?)
Have a great ride,
Peter

Chicked me too. No shame in being chicked. Especially by Amy. I am under no illusions who is the stronger rider.

This was my first handicap road race. I was put into the Limit +4min bunch, and had two fellow DHBC riders with me, Peter Bownes and Andrew Mattes. The first half of the race was all uphill. At 88kg, cycling uphill is not my strength, so my plan was to just stay with the bunch and not do anything silly. The bunch worked really well together and we started picking up or passing riders from the Limit bunch; soon we had caught all of them. At the halfway turn around point we had done enough that we had not been caught by the bunches that started after us, which was great.

Just after the halfway turnaround point, the last rider we picked up from the limit bunch took off down the hill. I decided to chase and descended the hill Peter Sagan style. I quickly caught and passed the rider, but was disappointed when they sat up and didn’t try to work with me. For a few moments I wondered if I should sit up too. I started to see the following bunches making their way up to the turnaround point and I thought they didn’t seem that far behind. I remember Noel Gorrell (who was in the Limit +8min bunch) saying he was sprinting really well recently, and thought he could be dangerous if it came down to a sprint finish. I looked around to see what I should do and there was Andrew on my wheel. Andrew told me before the race his strategy was that if I took off on the way back he was going to follow me and hang onto my wheel.

I then thought let’s give it a crack, let’s try a 35km breakaway for the win! I settled into a time trial position and for the next 15km or so we really pushed it. One of the race officials came up beside us in their car and was telling us about the gap, I couldn’t really hear what he was saying at first but eventually heard that we had opened up a 2 min gap. By this stage I was sweating profusely and started getting cramps in my left calf muscle. For the next 15km or so I was trying to manage my calf so it was great having Andrew with me, so I could have several rests sitting out of the wind, have a drink and stretch the calf. I was also trying to channel Jens Voigt; “shut up legs”. During this period of the race from what I could gather from the race official is that we were maintaining our gap. At one stage during this part of the race I heard a big groan from Andrew, I was a bit worried, so yelled out if he was ok. I think he said yep, so we kept going (turns out he was having some back problems, so kudos for keep on going!).

The last 5km or so were tough, I was getting pretty tired. I was starting to think we were going to get caught but just kept pushing. Our speed was dropping and the chasing bunch was eating into our advantage. We could start to see them in the distance behind us getting closer and closer; had we gone out too fast from the turnaround? We got to the bottom turn, meaning we had about 3km to go, and we could get a better view of who was chasing us and how far back they were. I didn’t take too much notice of who the chase group was, but they seemed close and I thought they were going to catch us so we kept pushing and pushing. It wasn’t until about 1km to go I started to think we should have this, but then I started to think, I wonder if I will have to sprint to beat Andrew! I had done a lot of work and was pretty knackered. As we turned onto the road to head up to the finish line, with about 400m or so to go Andrew, showing great sportsmanship for the extra effort I had put in, said something like “Congrats Rob, you have won”. We ended up finishing with 36 seconds to spare. Well done Andrew, a great ride to remember, and a great story for life.

Thanks. That's my first race report to go along with my first Handicap Road race.

John, if you were there and not sick, there is a good chance it might have been first, second & third for DHBC.

I don't think I will be able to do the Kurrajong event. I am playing a one off rugby match for Balmain on the 30th August with all the guys I used to play with. It will be my first game in 2 years, so I assume I will be quite sore. In addition, that day is Balmain Rugby's Ladies day which is a big social event, so I assume I will be hungover too.
