Sydney Road Titles is an age graded race on a flat circuit around Penrith Lakes. It's a good chance to see how you go against rides of the same age. Every year DHBC has a continent of riders there, make this year one where you are there too.

Entries close Sunday 18th May

Entered, as you were typing this I think.

Also, this is probably one of the best venues/races for spectators as you can watch 3-4 races at the same time, and if you sit in the right place you can see 95% of the course!

It feels more like 3k as it's flat

Or 8k if you try to make a solo break.

It's a difficult circuit to breakaway in, I've tried numerous times only for the bunch to mow me down. One year I got away in a 3 man breakaway and stayed away for most of the race only to be caught with 2k to go

The problem is that the pack can see the breakaway for most of the course

The DHBC contingent did real good with most riders finishing with their respective bunches

M2's had a double chance of winning this year. Rob w was out in a breakaway that got caught just before the finishing straight, we thought you had it wrapped up! Then Phil g had 4th wheel coming into the final straight, only to be caught up in a mechanical failure from the 3rd wheel's bike. So unlucky, but hopefully better luck next year.

Things are looking up for women's cycling! This year they split the women's masters into 3 bunches. I rode in the WMAS5/6 Combined. Trouty was in WMAS3/4 and started a minute or two ahead of us.

Our bunch got organised after the 3rd lap when we had the 3/4s in our sight. We agreed to work together and chase down the 3/4s figuring we could catch and pass them within 2 laps. We did this, then played cat and mouse as they passed us, we passed them and then one of our women had a chat to them and told them to back off. Our bunch passed and got away averaging about 34.5 for most of the race. I did a couple of turns on the front but was at the back coming into the last right turn before the bridge but a kerfuffle saw a couple of riders in the grass and I moved up towards the front and was on the wheel of the WMAS6 winner and gaining on her when we crossed the line in a sprint. I came 6th in our bunch and 2nd in WMAS 6.

Best bit was chicking the 3/4s :-)

Congrats to Trouty who was first in WMAS4 and 3rd in her bunch in what she described as a coffee ride full of sprinters.

Sydney Road titles is one of the best events of the years. In the morning's spin class my legs weren't working that well and I turned up at Penrith Lakes with the expectation of just sitting on in M5.

We ended up sitting on the line for more than 20 minutes for whatever reason, this time we couldn't blame M1 cos they were put in the M2 race would have have to actually ride.

First attack happened straight after the end of neutral, I ignored this one.

Craig hit a bollard and almost took himself out but stayed upright. Which was lucky for me as he had gone he would of probably taken me out too. He said the rider next to him pushed him over.

It wasn't until the end of lap3? that the adrenaline popped and I moved up to the front have a go at the Prime. But when they kicked I knew I couldn't take it so I backed out of it and then attacked after the prime. I was reeled in and then someone else attacked, I went around some riders and chased with 2 other riders on my wheel and I caught the attacker which made us a group of 4 off the front, say 50mtrs. We sprung into action, this was a great opportunity and we worked hard, but the bunch simply mowed us down. I was told that we had sent panic thru the bunch, so the attack was seen as a real threat. A lap or 2 later I had another attempt to go off the front and the next lap the guy in front of also had a go and as I was behind him I went too.

Last lap saw the action, it was really important to have a good position at the end of the straight and I thought I had positioned myself well.... wrong. Somehow I was caught behind another rider while a bunch of riders went around us. The end result was being too far back in such a big bunch counting myself out of the sprint.

Average speed was 40.3kph, the data shows about 35kph when nothing was happening and between 40 and 50 when we were working. Max speed 55.1kph, don't know where that happened. It didn't feel as hard as the data indicates
