Calga TT This Sunday

Hey all, anyone going to the Calga TT this Sunday? I'll be there trying to get some more saddle time before next weekend. Got some clip on aero bars fitted today too so I'll try to train with them this week and hopefully put in a good time on the weekend.

Planning on giving Calga TT a try this Sunday.

Never ridden it before so will be an adventure into the unknown.

Highly recommend people do this one

It's you against yourself

My tips are, get a good warm up (to the point where you think you've overdone it, you probably haven't) and go easy for the first 10 minutes or so, if your starting pace feels hard you've way overblown it, if it feels too easy it's probably about right.

Had my first ride with clip-on aerobars today, they're awesome! I'll be severely disappointed if I don't get a PB on Sunday.

Well done Keith.

Andrew, how did you go?

Not too well unfortunately, 41:32 or something for the 25km course. A little slower than my first time riding the course which is actually my pb. Not sure why, either my cold is effecting me more than I thought or my lack of riding recently. It was pretty windy there too which I don't think helped. At least the aero bars were a lot more comfortable than the drops, normally my hands go numb.

Andrew, to my knowledge that makes you the second fastest DHBC rider this year

Mike, yeah looks to be second fastest under you. Oh well I guess I'll just have to practice more :P

Ahem.

I did 42:21 in February.

Admittedly as stoker on a tandem with Michael O'Reilly (now a member, not then).

Mr O' is a DHBC member? He'll look good in red.

Might be early days at the moment, but gauging an interest for the next one coming up in December.
I'm definitely keen and it looks like that DHBC hasn't been on the map for a few months.

It was a good day out at Calga yesterday - http://www.atta.asn.au/db/005.php?page= ... d=nsw12_13 We all did the 25k course

Michael Clement 0:39:34 Happy with that, I was sick during the week, only 46 seconds down on my PB
Andrew Burns 0:40:55 a PB
Paul Armishaw 0:41:42 also a PB
Jonathon Wong 0:43:41 first ever time there, so that's the baseline

For me, I was 11th outright, 10th on handicap out of 56 riders. Not quite the top 10 result I wanted but close.

And I discovered there were leaches....

I think I was the only DHBC member there on Sunday 5 Jan.
Did 39:57 for 25 km, my first time under 40 min:)
New TT bike felt great, it is a Riddley frame with the bits from my old Scott.
Also learned that after a PB, the next month's ride is free.

Plan to have another go in Feb.

Interesting conditions on Sunday, those who got away early had perfect weather for it. Paul, Jonathan and I left much later, by which time the wind had picked up quite a bit. I found myself being knocked around, I wouldn't of liked to use those wheels in a mass start race. Paul and I logged times that were well down on our PB's, Paul being 1m27s slower and mine was 57s slower. Talking to some other riders who rode around the same time of me was showing that most were 1 to 1.5 minutes slower in the condiitions. At the end of the day it wasn't so much about how our times compared with previous attempts but how we found the ride, for me I felt that I lost concentration several times, allowing my heart rate to plummet. It was a great training experience, I learn't a lot from it.

Now Jonathan took the bit between the teeth and ignored the none record breaking conditions by destroying his previous best, shaving 33s off his previous time. Congratulations Jonathan, well done mate.

BTW Jonathan, if you go next month its free entry as you set your PB the previous month

Paul, I really want to. But, I'm still tossing up between this and entering Bathurst sportif.

I have to put up pics for the run we did in January too. I'll put them up soon.

Did 40:14, so 17 sec slower than my PB.
It poured with rain @ 25 min.

Might try 40 km next time.

5 of us made it out to Calga this Sunday.

When we arrived there was a huge queue, which we didn't expect. It was due to a woman's championship and Waratah Vets having their championship. Craig considered pulling the pin and going home. The end result was about an 1.5 hours wait before your slot by the time you got your number.

All of us had entered the 25k route. Conditions were windy and the conditions changed considerably as the day went on meaning that there was a lot of variation in the results with some of us been a lot further away from our previous times than others, that regards Craig fared the best only 11s slower than his PB, where our worst result was 2m37s slower than PB, very clear what a huge difference the conditions dished up.

25k results, 125 riders entered
15th Michael Clement 0:39:27
27th Craig Weller 0:41:13
51st Keith Winsor 0:43:35
53rd Philip Le Masurier 0:43:47
75th Jonathan Wong 0:45:49

Congratulations to Philip for his first venture to Calga, I bet he returns :)

Overall it was a great day, I'm glad I went

Had a great time. I think I like ITT's no one to blame but myself, which is strangely liberating. I was pleasantly surprised I could maintain an average of 33.5kph for the 25km. Didn't hurt to much, which is in fact a problem, I rarely visit the "house of pain". I'd surely do better if I did, having said that I hope to do better next time. As it stands I've been well and truely "chicked" by Eleri at almost 3 minutes faster. More work to do. Maybe I need a sperm helmet. ;)

Geez, I'd be pretty happy doing 37km/hr at 70 years young!!!

ITT club champs could have legs! I like that idea.

Actually it was because it was a tandem, not because the captain is male.
