Last year we did a vintage ride from Sutherland to Wollongong via a nice ye olde dirt road. It was fun and very scenic and I would like to do it again.
Meet mrc 7am- catch train from sydenham to sutherland cause that bit is boring
finish- wollongong- last time we had lunch at the brewery
other stops-wherever we want
pace- social/glacial
bike?-ride whatever you like. the dirt bit is 10km and has a few bumps-the guys were fine on their steel roadies- my touring bike was perfect- maybe not your million dollar carbon dream bike
suitable for- those who are too slow or lazy for the west head ride. Faster riders would have to wait a very long time at the top of hills so should bring crossword or knitting. You must have stood under a running waterfall at least once to come on this ride.

Bring two bidons, food & 2 x tubes + levers & a pump.
check out photos from last time here

Any takers?

Tempting. It was great fun, even tho' one of my beers got too shook up and leaked out. I was pretty devastated but everyone was very supportive.

It is always sad to lose a beer so young, before its time. Sorry for your loss.

It was very bold for a lyrebird. Looked like it was strutting it's stuff in the sun on the track. I think it got scared off by those rampaging MTBers and had only just got back to business. It was a great little side-trip - a Lindsay special? I suspect that he has done some of that rampaging MTB stuff himself....

I'll probably catch the train from Burwood and meet you at Sydenham. 7.15 from Sydenham?

John-sounds about right
Lizanne- around 7.50 and after riding all the way from mrc to sydenham station and enduring an arduous train journey we might have to do first breakfast in sutherland if anything is open.

The Classic Bicycle Show video ended my chances of getting my Easter radio program together in time, so I'm out now unfortunately.
Have a nice ride everyone!

Karzie, if it is of any consolation, I'm not going too. All DHBC'ed out. May reappear for Slowies.
Great video. The video has only been online for 3 hours and almost 380 people have already clicked on this Facebook item.

I've had a slight change of plans. As the bunch will be lingering at Sutherland I'll catch a slightly later train and get there at 7.58 instead of 7.50. I'll find the rest of the bunch when I get there. The radar looks OK, with the rain band set to clear well before we get there, though Lady Carrington Drive might be a bit muddy. Unfortunately there'll be a headwind....

i doubt there will be any mud. it's been dry for so long it will all be gone by morning if the rain stops in the next hour or so.
plus i've just given myself a ye olde bad road conversion fixie handicap, feel free to heckle me...

Beautiful weather, lovely scenery, good company and cold beer at the brewery. What more could you want?

Lady Carrington Drive wasn't too muddy, and perfectly navigable for road bikes (even fixies with 23mm tyres). We saw two lyrebirds and Lizanne saw a wallaby. And the two Peters had excellent tyre-changing practice, getting three flats between them.
