Hi All,

To complement Stuart's ride on Friday, I propose another long ride on Monday to work off the Easter Eggs we will have all consumed on Easter Sunday. Coincidentally, it also happens to be the first day of the next Strava Challenge. Via RNP, I'd like to check out Sublime, on the Illawarra escarpment just west of Coledale. Rolling out from the Cafe at 630am it will be approximately 154kms. There are a number of bail out points on the way including the south coast stations and Waterfall. Note, I am unaware of any track works at this stage.

The pace will be C28's and you can all wait for me at the top of the hills. You should have completed at least 2-3 Waterfall rides with the C28's or faster to come on this ride. Bring two bidons, food & 2 x tubes + levers & a pump. This is not an adventure ride so there will be limited stops.

I am hoping Sublime cafe will be open but being a public holiday I'm not sure.

Let me know if you're interested. Note, there is also Waratah's racing on Easter Monday.

sounds cool. Is this the cafe you're talking about?

What route were you thinking about, or more importantly where were you planing to climb up to the escarpment?

In answer to both your questions Philip, I'm not sure. In regards to the climb I was going to check out Keith's ride on Strava as he was on his TT bike so that suggests an easier climb (though knowing Keith perhaps not). As for the cafe, I thought there was only 1? A mate from work lives in the area so I will ask him...

After some discussion with Phillip I've decided we will go up Lawrence Hargrave Drive. This is NOT the wall... Best idea really and pops us out in a better location.

I think we will go home straight down the old Princes Hwy as we did (for a bit) of the Fixie Century.

Are you still aiming for sublime point or an open café at Thirroul or Austi in the interests of breakfast?

Good question. Thirroul means going in and out of the park, i.e. more hills, but a nice breakfast. Sublime is shut so it means no breakfast but a shorter ride with fewer hills.

Thoughts, comments?

Fewer hills would be my preference, as I'm crap at climbing.

Hi All,

It's on in 10 hours...

Decision made. We'll still head to Sublime as it's somewhere I've never been and we'll head home on the Princes Hwy. Slightly shorter, slightly fewer hills, but still a jolly good workout.

Rain is forecast so I will post here if I don't plan to ride.

Interested in how you are going to reach Sublime Point Lookout via RNP? AFAIK there are no quiet roads to access that point. It's either up Bulli Pass or straight down Princess Hwy from Waterfall. If you go via RNP at Otford/Stanwell Park, then you'll need to loop back to Princess Hwy via Stanwell Tops/Helensburgh. Curious.

Hi All,

Raining in Marrickville and it's looking pretty wet down south. With this weather my concern is safe descending through the park.

With that in mind I don't think we should be riding this morning. :-(

As a compromise we're going to start and if necessary just do Waterfall return.

A couple of photos from our not-quite Sublime ride (ended up being Eastern Suburbs hills via La Perouse including breakfast in BJ)...

Maybe I shouldn't have looked up the forecast, and then gone back to bed...
