I've come to the realisation that my rear wheel rim is cracked on all of the drive side spoke holes. As I will need to wait to have this repaired under warranty, I am looking for a loaner Shimano hubbed wheel to tide me over the Christmas period and into Jan.

If you have a wheel I can borrow, please PM me. I'm sure I can barter some wine in exchange for the loan.

Cheers,

Noel

Should I mention that Jo's cracked wheel is < 3 years old, were damn expensive (too expensive) and built by a local wheel builder ... rims unknown, hubs unknown, spokes unknown ....

Jo, Did you crack your TWE rim?. Mine were my TWE's and less than 2 years old.

The assessment from my bike mechanic is that the wheel was over tensioned. The only person who has touched those wheels was Greg himself so will investigate getting the wheel rebuilt. Not sure what his warranty will cover.

Yes, I cracked my TWE wheels. They had several hairline fractures very near or at a few of the nipples. I could still ride on them, but the mechanic said it was a matter of time before a spoke would break and I had to be really careful. Not worth it, so I'm riding one of our heavier wheels at the moment.

Stuart bought some wheels with Chris King hubs earlier this year, so of course I can't have a set of wheels that aren't as good as his !!

I have lots of spare wheels but I'm in Perth at the moment. Sorry I can't help untill I get back. If your drive side spokes has any more than 100kgf (plus or minus 10%) it's not a good thing. Rims are often the weakest part of the wheel.

So, did you get a replacement Noel? I have a Shimano & a Most (with tyre) rear in the shed. No cassettes.

Thanks all for your kind offers.

Stuart had sorted me out with a loan and I'm back up and running.

I'll see you all out for some rides this weekend most likely.
