LBS that has test saddles?

Hi All

Anyone know of a LBS in the inner west or CBD that has a range of test saddles? I think I can do better than my current Selle Italia C2, but I'd rather not blaze off $100+/try in a few rounds of seat roulette and would perhaps rather a more systematic approach

Failing that if anyone has a Selle SMP Dynamic lying around, I'd love to try it (it's first cab off the rank based on my research)

Cheers
Greg

Burwood Cycles (Cycleworld) have test Selle SMP Lite 209's which are truly assume saddles ... they're $300 though less your 10-15% DHBC discount. Cheaper on-line and at Cell.

Ashfield also do the Specialized test saddles I'm led to believe.

I got my Selle SMP from the Giant store in Clarence Street. They gave me a loan saddle for 1 week or so.

I guess like my shoe debate, it definitely pays to try first. I'm glad I did that with my seat. Happy to wing it on my shoes though....

But that would be really poor form if you tried it and then bought it from somewhere else.

Cheers guys.

In possession of a test Lite 209 from Giant Sydney. Hopefully it does the trick. Happy to pay a little over the odds (vs online) in order to be able to test it first

For anyone who wants to know how the scheme works, you "buy" the test saddle for RRP, and if you like it, exchange it for a brand new one after a week, and if you don't you get a full refund

Jury is out on the Lite 209. Comfy through the sit area, though finding my thighs are rubbing on the saddle rails.

Is that something my style is likely to adjust to, or should I move straight on to something else?

When that happened to me it was because I had the seat in the wrong position and at the wrong angle. It should be level when you put a spirit level on it longitudinally. It will look like it is sloping down.

Cheers Eleri. Have adjusted accordingly. Fingers crossed

If you want more info on adjusting the smp, have a read of Steve Hogg

http://www.stevehoggbikefitting.com/blo ... bout-smps/

I have my evolution sloping down 3 degrees. Makes a very noticeable difference from level.

The site is worth a poke around if you want to fiddle with your fit.

Having tried lots of saddles over the years I can offer a few for you to test for a couple of weeks if you like. I have banished the following saddles to my old commuter, old road bike or the MTB but you are welcome to try them out.

Lite 209 - Just didn't work for me. Many swear by them though.
Selle Italia Gel Flite Max
Specialized Toupe Gel 143

I have recently found the saddle that works for me, the Selle San Marco Mantra.

Looks a bit odd and wasn't cheap but it just fits where it counts, priceless. I like a saddle with a cutout, narrow at the front and has the sides rolled over so it doesn't dig in to the hamstrings.

PM me if you would like to try any of the saddles listed above.

Cheers Guys, and thanks for the offer Richard

My update: I sacked the Lite 209 I had on test. Leveling out the saddle stopped my thighs rubbing on the rails, but I just didn't feel the saddle was comfy enough to warrant the pricetag.

Subsequently went and tried the assometer/Specialised route. The Assometer showed I had rather wide sit bones (which I'm sure is a euphemism for a big arse) and off the back of that am now sporting a Specialised Romin Evo Comp 168 (my sit bone width was 145) which I've only done two rides on, but seems a rather good fit.

I've also just sold my Selle Italia C2 which I started with.

If the Romin doesn't agree long term I might come back to your Richard

Good luck with the Romin. I liked it at first but the tip of the saddle was too wide for me.

Offer still stands if you want to try any of the other saddles in the future.
