In an attempt to start improving my climbing and chase extra km's i'll be hitting RNP tomorrow assuming I can convince someone to share the work. I'll be riding out with the usual bunches at 6.30am. Let me know if you are in and I will be sure to ride in the appropriate group and make the plan.

BTW - Won't be too fast if you are concerned about pace as I did Bobbin today and trashed my legs....

Cheers,

Noel

John and I are both keen and we'll both be riding in the middies tomorrow. If you go with the fasties perhaps you can have a rest at the turn off till we catch up. What's your preference Waterfall or Audley? Perhaps in a few weeks we can muster up some masochists and tackle "the wall".

Cheers,
Philip

ps Anthony and Spiros might also be keen.

I'll ride middies tomorrow too. I normally drop in at when doing RNP but not really fussed. Might be better to go in at Waterfall if we have a small group.

I would like to join you in RNP. I will do best to keep up with the middies until the turnoff to audley but I may be a few minutes behind if I can't keep up.

Sorry Anthony, ended up being a whole bunch of riders keen to bust a gut in the park and there was no stopping the pack. Did you do it solo or skip it? I've been soloing it for the past month and I must say I set a much more leisurely pace than the group today. The young guns were setting a cracking pace. They dragged my sorry old arse to a few PRs, thanks guys.

The reverse next week? if anyone's keen.

Philip,
No problem. I was pretty trashed from trying to keep up with the bunch so I wouldn't have kept up once the road went up.
I rode through the park with another solo rider and enjoyed the downhill bits greatly.

Which way is considered the easier of the two rides thru RNP? Dropping in at Audley or Waterfall?

In my opinion it's easier going in at Waterfall out at Audley. One reason being, when you head up to waterfall on the highway, you've already done a lot of the vertical meters with the help of the bunch. Both ways have some pain involved, there's no getting away from that. When you're at Waterfall you are at a higher elevation than Audley so technically it's downhill back to Audley, believe that at your peril :). See you there next week?

Makes sense.

I'm actually keen to start having a crack at such things, though I dare say I'm a long way off the pace you guys would set. Any C25/C28 folk want to give this a bash soon?

Hi Greg,

I'm keen to give the RNP a go in the next week or two as I need to get climbing metres in the legs for Fitz's. Might have a few mates coming along as well.

Spiros, , Greg, I'm interested in Sunday hill climbs at a slower pace too in 4 weeks or so. Same reason , training , short term, for a ' bite off more than you can chew ' Fitz attempt.

Was dropped by 28s today as a reference point. Unfortunately, I will be occupied and then out of Sydney for next 4 weeks... If you still have a plan going at when I'm back I'll hope to be part of it.

FYI. My average pace door to door yesterday was 28.7km/hr. We waited at the top of the major hills to regroup but the pace was pushed on pretty hard, which I felt on the last climb. There was a good run in in the way back too. My pace dropped off when I hit the wall in the last few kms and could not top 32km/hr on the flat. Thought I'd hit the wall before but now I know previously I was just a bit tired.

Excellent suggestion of Adrians to turn left & head into RNP yesterday, though unfortunately I broke a spoke halfway through and had to leave the bunch and pedal gingerly back to the exit to catch a train home. Being a 24 spoke wheel the buckle was reasonably severe and no amount of fiddling with the quick release could stop it from hitting the chainstay on each revolution. This wore the tyre down so by the time I got to the station it was bubbling out the sidewall; just enough life left in the tyre to get from tempe station to petersham. Will carry a spoke key next time.

I just signed up for the Three Peaks, so I too have joined the "bitten off more than I can chew and about to chew hard" camp.

Perhaps we could go to Waterfall with the C25s then drop in to RNP from there? I was pretty cooked by Waterfall riding with the C28s on the weekend

Alan,
If it was any other week I would have had my spoke wrench. I've got one on my multi tool but I took my mini multi tool on Sunday. Glad you made it back on one piece. Now you should go get yourself some high spoke training wheels :-)

That's because we were the Middies.

I'm definitely keen for a repeat assault on the RNP next weekend depending on whether I go to race with SuVelo. I think I need the kms so am leaning towards the long ride south.

Hi Greg,

I should be able to make this weekend for a RNP ride. Will post closer to the day to work out the details.

One option I always planned on for fitness, but haven't tried, is racing southern cross racing at lofts, then a ride through the national park on the way home. Southern cross is usually good for most of us, just no hard core elite a grade unless their juniors turn up.

If I join it will be at middies pace. I'm likely to try my hand to hang of the back of fasties tomorrow. Depending on how I feel I'll do RNP but will go Waterfall in this time at the recommendation of all last week.

Last time I rode with the Fasties I did a big turn past Brighton and never recovered. I'll be doing measured efforts this time but will no doubt find myself 'hanging off the back'.

Hi Spiros

I'm keen, though I think I might have cooked myself riding the eastern suburbs hills this morning. Will deffo ride Waterfall though - perhaps we can chat then. I'll be in a Blue-Green Cell top riding a Silver/Grey Orbea.

Cheers

Hi Greg,

No problem. We'll catch up tomorrow at the cafe and see how you've pulled up.

I'll be in a long sleeve club jersey and be riding a silver Scott.

Regards
Spiros

I'm going to give fasties a go tomorrow but not RNP, just looking for a Waterfall and back so that I can go out and do things after lunch.

Looks like a nice day tomorrow, so I'd be interested in RNP at C25/C28 pace. I'll probably roll out with the C25s. Either that or I'll be falling out the back of the C28s.

Maybe meet up at the top of the bridge at Waterfall? I'll be in a long-sleeve DHBC jersey, riding an old steel Omega.

Hi John,

Since it's my first RNP I'll ride out at 25's pace. Talk tomorrow morning but if you're okay waiting at Waterfall it suits me.

Completed my first RNP ride with John (in at Waterfall), who did it the hard way with a 42 tooth inner chainring!!

The glutes and thighs are feeling a bit fatigued, so hopefully they recover in time for next week when I tackle it in the harder direction

I must admit my 42/25 gearing was probably not ideal for the climb out of Audley, but otherwise seemed OK. I paid for this effort heading back along the Grand Parade, when I started to fade. All in all a lovely day out on the bike.

On the way back we heard the mating call of the Lesser Spotted Bogan Drongo: "Get off the f@%$#ing road!!". Apparently this species is endemic in the Sutherland area, but its supine posture and daytime-sleeping habit mean it is rarely encountered before midday.

John
