Lo All

Just wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a good shop in the Inner West? Not so much from the perspective of buying, more from a servicing point of view. Tried to convert my new bike from a flatbar to drops and ran out of talent/knowhow.

And on a side note, do the club ever run sessions on servicing.

Cheers
Greg

Velofix in Rozelle. They are a specialist bike mechanic. Speak the Anthony or Jose. Very good. Both of them were racers and very experienced mechanics. I have been going there for years.

I have found Bikerepairs.com in Murry St Marrickville to be pretty hopeless, I now trek into City Bike Depot in the city. They deal in Canondales so I trust them to know what they are doing with my Cannon, and they have been really great!

I've recently had some repairs done at Bike Depot on Enmore Road, honest, good, quick service - speak to jarrod. And I know a dhbc member works there too but can't remember his name.

Many servicings, replacements, modifications done with Ashfield Cycles / John / Kane. Very happy dealing with them.

Cheers guys. Appreciate all the recommendations

Decided to take the bike into City Bike Depot. They're really handy to my work and they have been helpful when I've been in there nosing around. I'm getting the flat bar changed to drops on my new steed. Got half way through it and ran out of know how, parts and talent. Will report back on the experience

Any reason why the club doesn't have a loose affiliation with a LBS? Seems a logical synergy - bit of a club discount, regular stream of business.

I think life is easier for a Club not to be too affiliated with this or that bike shop. There are many around, and most of them are first class. Most of them deserve our support.

Anthony at Velofix sold me my first two bikes and set my neighbour up, when at Clarence St. Now he runs his own store, and he knows his stuff.

I bought my Cannondale at CBD bikes. The workshop is run by Al and one other guy (name eludes me...)-: ). They've always done a good job. Usually $80 and they don't mind if you rock up with components you may be stockpiling, and ask they replace these onto worn parts - they will charge for the labour. Services are about $80 bucks. I had a thorough job done, and some small parts replaced, including cables, and it was $110. The bike was cleaned and buffed up like it was when I bought it there.

They did fail however in not fixing it to the extent that it would help me win Ken Dinnerville........I thought I had handed them also a mini motor for the downtube/bottom bracket

not sure on the details, but i think it has something to do with sponsorship and our jersey not having any logos on it. if we became affiliated with a LBS there may be pressure to put their name on the jersey. and then pressure to go to said bike shop.

There are heaps of little bike shops hidden away in the inner west. we really are spoiled for choice.
Omafiets, Glow worm, Bike depo (enmore rd) Peter Bundy, Stanmore cycles, (i'de recomend Ashfield, one of the awesome jr track riders works there, but sadly, i've never been)... and then the city with Deus, CBD, and MC. i use about a half a dozen shops. I ride with most of the guys (and girls) from them. When i need to go to a shop, I choose the one my bike broke down closest too.

Yes, I'm at glowworm. We are electric and urban bike specialists but we service all bikes and have a large stock of bike parts/consumables at good prices. We are local and cheaper than the city stalls. Talk to Griffin or Abraham for roadie service/repairs.
