This morning I raced at Eastern Creek in the Ashfield Cycles / Specialized Cup with Waratah Vets. It was a bit of a strange morning. Patrick/Paddy from RBCC drove me out there but we missed a turn on the M4 and arrived late just as they were starting the race. After quickly paying our entry fee, we rode on the track and joined the bunches. Paddy was in A Grade and I was in B. I actually didn't realised it was a 'big race' but I should have guessed when we struggled to find a place to park the van in the carpark. The peleton was huge with around 60 in B grade and 80 in A grade. B grade was pretty slow with no really attacks, but two riders got away in the final lap to take 1st and 2nd place. Then came the big spirit. It was ridiciously busy with riders 6 across but I was lucky to get a good wheel which took me close to the front from around 300m. After negoitating a bit of bunch traffic I finally hit the wind with less than 100 to go. There was less than a wheel between 3rd and 6th place. I had the momentum but had started too late. When I went back to the results board my name was in 4th place. I was excited! Then 10 mins later, I've saw bumped to 6th in photo review. I was dissapointed... one steep off the podium and one place out of the prize money :-( Oh, well. I never really expected anything from the race and I was very happy to get some good racing experience in. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/175124862

I'm on the far left. Sorry my DHBC kit was dirty from yesterday's Heffron Race.

Great run at the line Adrian, and a tale well told.

6th in B grade is pretty good - especially when you missed out by a whisker. Welcome to vets racing!

A singlr rider in B grade won by over half a lap ahead of the two man breakaway you mentioned. Thats probably why you were bumped down as well. Perhaps you lost him in the fog?

I really like Eastern Creek and we only missed this race due to a wedding up at Myal Lakes. Are they still using the full track including the big right hand downhill corner at turn nine? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Easte ... ircuit.svg

I love that corner it full gas there if you like to lean.
