Dear all,

We have expanded our official rides to three regular Club Rides.

1. Saturday Slowies
2. Waterfall Ride (Four Bunches)
3. Wednesday Mid-Week Ride

For more details on the ride, please read the offical news and club information on our website:

http://www.dhbc.org.au/bicycle-club/road.html

We appreciate that timing, targeted group speed, and venue may not suit all. We've struggle to get a mid-week ride going in the past, so if this works well, and with lots of participation, we can consider other options, speeds and routes. So lets get this going successfully first.

I really think the mid week riding is a great idea.

Why cant we design something local and around Dullo there are some good hills round here just right for mid week riding?

It's about an hour to get to CP and back at middies pace via Cleveland - City rd - King St, leaving an hour of fast time in CP which is enough I know! I just think that it might be nicer to play closer to home when most of us have work, family commitments and the like.

Am I alone on feeling like this?

Besides it would be awesome for the Club to have our own ride on our turf.

The roads around suburbia, although quiet, are largely short. Too much start and stop riding.
However if someone can come up with a good route .....

I haven't ridden this route but have driven before.

Up Marrickville rd towards Dullo. Left onto Wardell and follow Wardell all the way up to Hursltone Park ( nice climb ) - then out to and left onto Bexley rd and up the Bexley rd climbs towards Forest rd. Left and into the Bardwell Valley short steep climbs round there ( hill repeats). I don't know how long this would take might need some beefing up but how is that for a starter? Its nothing on the Eastern Hills but its local.

Perhaps we should just start short listing local hills and good/nice roads? And then work on linking them altogether.

Strange Rhys...

Looks like a good idea, I've been wanting to do some CP training rides in the morning so looks like some motivation has arrived.

Interesting formatting changes in that page Geoff .... Also, its now way to long ... too much information. That disclaimer should be separate page that can be linked to surely?

Yes, we seem to have now been listed as an attack site. I'm looking into it. It may take a while to fix.

Update: Google are now reporting:
Malware: Google has not detected any malware on this site.

The warning should go away within 24 hours.

Lucky I convinced my neighbour Greg (and club rider) to come. It was just the two of us. But a glorious, glorious morning. We were back by 7.50. Well worth the ride for those who can make it. I also got a Personal Best climb up the hills.

Met up with John from marrickville on another crisp but clear autumn morning. We waited to about five past six then headed to CP via an alternate route past the airport for some variety.

Didn't see any other DH riders whilst we completed our laps of the park. Great morning and a well needed 50km in the legs.

Cheers

Well done. I had a work related commitment this morning so couldn't attend. We've now therefore successfully held 2 rides with 2 riders each over 2 weeks. Let's try to double this number for next week.

I'm really annoyed I coudn't be there this morning. I've been rostered to work every Wednesday morning to the end of June. Next week I'll be working with the City of Sydney at Taylor Square. If you want to finish your ride there, we'll have free coffee and bike tune ups, and I'll probably give a BBBell!

Perhaps we should just start short listing local hills and good/nice roads? And then work on linking them altogether.
Or if you cross over Old Canterbury Rd, there is the hillclimb from the bottom/western end Princess St, Canterbury, left onto Holden St Ashbury and up approx 1 km to the top of the hill where the Ashfield (water tower) reservoir is located. Down Holden St Ashfield, right into Arthur St Ashfield, then right again into Victoria St Ashfield (very quiet and closed off at Canterbury Rd).

I believe the old Princess St and Holden St climb is a traditional road cyclist training run. Al Sumner told me he use to do it during this younger days back in the 1950s.

Is anyone riding tomorrow morning (weather permitting)?

Finding it hard to get there for Waterfall on Sunday due to family commitments. Wednesday could be an easier option.

Hi Everyone,

With Geoff starting a new job and myself being sick or working over the last month, I'm thinking it might be best to post-pone this ride untill the August. At the moment, its about as cold and dark as you can imagine it's very hard finding the motivation to go especially with the early morning tour highlight to catch up on.

I'm still riding (when I can) on Tuesday and Thursday morning with several DHBC people on the MC Cycerly rides around eastern suburbs. The Thursday morning hills is a particualrly good training and we regroup at the top each hill so no-one gets left behind. Both rides start at 6.15 at Centennial Park (Robinson Rd gates) and finish with at a most agreeable cafe. details: http://mccyclery.com.au/events/

The Tuesday and Thursday rides are organised by MC Cyclery and very good. However, they are not official, nor DHBC Club official rides.

We had a good group of three riders this morning and Marc got to practice some paceline work for the first time since... that day. Sparing any untimely work call-ups I'm going to try again next week. We leave at 6am from Marrickville Rd Cafe and enter Centennial around 6:30am. I propose finishing around 7:15 with post-ride coffee at St Jude Cafe on Bourke St in East Redfern (2 blocks south of Cleveland St).

I'll remind everyone next week, but if your planning to ride, please let us know in advance so we don't leave Marrickville Rd Cafe without you!

The weather's looking for the mid-week ride tommorrow morning. Meet at 6am at Marrickville Rd cafe. Finish 7.20am at Centennial with optional coffee at St Jude Cafe on Bourke Street, East Redfern.

Please let me know if your likely to be there. We ususally leave at 6am on the dot.

We ended up riding to La Perouse this morning with Micheal, Eleri and myself. Michael was fixed to the hills were not really a good option. We returned to Erskinville by 7:30am for a great coffee at Cafe Shenkin.

Looking forward to next week. Sorry I was a tad late at the start.

We usually get back around 7:30 to Newtown so a little longer to Marrickville.

Btw: I can't make it tommorrow. I start work at 7am. Bu chance if you're riding through prince alfred park between 7:30am and 9am (behind Central of Chamers St) the city of sydney will be there with doing free bike tunes-ups. Drop in and say hello!

Have a great ride everyone.

Yes, great to see a good turn out. Thanks everyone. We'll get the pace right next time but good that we could split the bunch half way. Might re-look at a bit of the route too because it's different riding with a bunch of 8 compared to 3 or 4.

Thanks Dougie for taking the Marrickville bound people back. We headed off through Maroubra, Coogee to Centennial Park and ended up at St Judes cafe in Bourke Street again.

Were we a bit under C28 pace though?

Greg I averaged 25.8. It was about the same pace as you would get on a C28s but always slowed by intersections etc that you don't get on Waterfall. We were a bit slower on the uphill bits than the C28s in the first half, but comparable in the 2nd half would be my guess.

C28s aim to average 28kph and on Waterfall trip we would normally be avg 26 or so when we turn at Waterfall.

Anyway  we're on. Our special guest tommorrow includes one DamianM of sydneycyclist fame who's down from queensland for the week.

See you bright and early! Or should I say still slightly dark and early.

3 24 26 41 45, PB 27
4 27 34 40 41, PB 19
6 20 27 39 43, PB 43

No coffee this morning but a good turnout with 7 riders heading out to LaPa. We seem to have finally stuck on a route there via Tempe which is working well. Unfortunately next week I'm scheduled to start work extra early so I may not be able to make it :-(

Great ride. The views were spectacular. I think there were a couple of gratuitous hills in the route, but the pain was soon over. I hope you remember the way for next week Eleri, 'cos I don't! Maybe Adrian could do a bikely route or suchlike.... :D

We'll be right! Gratuitous hills?? never. :-) Slight bumps in the earth's surface, no more.

I'm keen to do this ride tomorrow. Any other takers? Is this normally CP or Laperouse?

And we're on again. Chance of a light shower in the morning but I think we'll be fine.

Great Morning out with mates. Nine in the Bunch. A little damp around Maroubra to Kensington. Some interesting technical sections and the odd snappy hillock. Gamin says 45K door to door and average of 25.7kph and home (coffeeless due to work commitments) at 7.49am. See you next week.

It's Ride to Work Day tomorrow. Why not make the Wednesday morning ride part of your commute?

There's a Ride to Work free breakfast in Hyde Park for those who want to go along. No idea what the quality of muffin, banana and coffee will be. You take your chances with that one. I, however, will probably partake at the cafe and pop along to HP for 3rd breakfast.

I'll be riding with a bag with my work clothes in it so you won't be the only one if that's what you decide to do.

Hopefully it won't slow me down :-)

I will probably join you all at 6am for the La Perouse ride tomorrow.

I went to Hyde Park for the Ride to Work event last year and saw a few DHBC jerseys milling around - grabbing any freebies on offer. The only disappointing thing was a recalcitrant person booing Clover Moore during her speech - not cool.

The food quality and quantity were more than adequate. There was a bit of a queue for the coffee though. It was proper espresso coffee - not the devil's brew (aka International Roast).

I'm going to try and make tomorrow's ride. If not I'll be kitted out for the breakfast at Hyde Park. See you all there.

We get to Malabar on the way out about 40mins after we leave - 6.45am and then return through Malabar about 7.05am. or thereabouts.
