I note that Alex Simmons is also in the MMAS3 starting list.

PS. Thanks to Jimmy for doing the hard yakka in the backend and getting this new site/forum up and running.

Alex must of recovered from his accident or entered his races earlier in the year. Alex is younger than me and would be in a different race.

Weiyun, aren't you MMAS3 ? That would put you in the same race as Alex.

I've heard Alex is still in hospital, & doesn't really want any visitors or anything. So i doubt he will be racing, but he may be?

Hey it's my birthday, on the 26th as well. So if you guys want to meet up for post race food & drinks or something. I"m kind of hoping I"ll be smashed from the racing & will finish but we should be back in Sydney by 6pm anyway. But if any body's interested?

It's no contest if that's the case...

But given how recently he had the accident, I'd be surprised if he is well enough to race. Must have been from an earlier registration.

Unfortunately I won't be in town on the 26th, so an advanced happy BD to you Simon!

Happy birthday Simon (in advanced).

Anyone know the club grades of the MMAS4's and 5's ? IE how badly am I going to get done?

Not a chance, this is a dead flat circuit. At Landsdowne I'd stand a better chance.

I'm sure there're some MMAS4 and 5's that could ride club A-grade, wouldn't have a clue about the majority though.

As for the post race Birthday celebrations, sounds good, just let me know the time and the place.

So I'm going to have to sit in at 40-45kph by the sounds of it.

Perhaps I should think about what riding (and other activities) I sould be doing over the next 13 days. Any suggestions.

Mate it'll be more like 50kms/hr in elite! They will hit it hard early on, slow in the middle and come home at the end I'm expecting...

I heard he crashed on the way to waterfall near captain cooks bridge, but a track crash would make more sense. I didn't know he really rides the road. My sources was pretty good though...

How long is a lap?

from memory, a lap is 5km. Check cyclingnsw for a better idea, says it on the course map i think.

Yeh, I think its 5k.

So that makes my race 50k and Simons 100k.

Mine starts at 8.10am so I better wear leg and arm warmers and have a magnesium tablet.

I injured my right forearm on Monday and my left knee on Tuesday (its been a bad week), but I don't think that either should be an issue for the race. I'm gunna die anyway, cos there's some A graders in my race.

Well its over, I now know what the best of Sydney breed for guys my age.

I got dropped once when the pack splintered and managed to get back on with the assistance of one other although for a while we though we wouldn't get back on and stayed with the pack all the way, getting dropped with 2k to go. There were a number of riders who got dropped during the race, so I'm happy to hang on for so long, while I wasn't the fastest there, I certainly wasn't the slowest and I got involved in a couple of responses to attacks too!

That I would say was probably my fastest race, can confirm when the resutls come out and its also my longest at about 48k.

Conditions were 8degC foggy, no wind, smooth surface, almost flat. Its warming up so if the wind stays away, it should be a nice elite race for Simon at 1.45pm this arvo.

Well i didn't have the best of days, i had a lot fun but i also had a few equipment issues. The bike is fantastic, handles beautifly, absolutely no problems considering i hadn't ridden more than probably 20kms on it up till today. The five year old pedals on the other hand, the only bit of equipment i neglected to upgrade or even use a more modern pair i possess were not so good. But anyway i pulled my foot without any effort whatsoever and basically ended my race there.stupid. dangerous. But I rode 50kms with another two guys anyway. There was one crash and an ambulance so maybe it wasn't worst finish to the day i could of had, but i would of liked to finish with the bunch and at the end of the day state title races are always intense, ride at 100% or go home...

While on the bunch we were traveling 52kms down the back straight no trouble. It's a really nice course, very flat, very narrow and a little dangerous as a result. I think we would benefit from having a team. I will definitely be back again & hopefully a few of you guys will come along...

Never neglect the pedals, i thought all that track riding with toe straps would have told you that.

Anyway, which pedals are you thinking of?

If you're going to stick with looks, there's one thing you might want to know.
Keo Classics have release tension from 8-12Nm
Keo Sprints are better at 9-15Nm
All the Carbon versions are 10-18Nm

So you may feel it's worth the extra money to keep your feet feeling more secure.

Otherwise i'm in favour of Speedplays. They're very secure, though the cleats are expensive and need a bit of care.

Time work fairly well, although they have had some reliability issues.

Shimano aren't really much different from look in my opinion, though i haven't tried the keos, and now the shimano pedals have a wider platform.

Whats that ????? beautiful weather !!!!!

I raced in fog, it was hard to see the breakaway at times.

I think the smaller MMAS4 bunch over elite made it a little safter. It was good to race was such experienced riders, you could see the difference between them and Heffron C.

Weather was great...

Probikekit have look pedals on sale, around 40% off at the moment. I need some energy bars, knicks and arm warmers, so let me know.

As for the Carbon vs Sprint. Depends if you need the extra 3Nm of tension possible with the carbons. They're also 20g lighter, for the set, and only $50 more.

Hey when i went to sprint this morning (i was by myself) i pulled my foot again without any effort whatsoever, the spring in the pedal is well past its due by date. So my racing bike has now been declared unraceable, so i'm pretty keen to invest in pedals very soon. So if you want to order i will be doing it in the next 24hrs or so. Since the Keo cleats are different to the standard i'm getting look keo classics for my fixie & look keo carbon minus the titanium axle for the racing bike...

Definitely looks like Simon got the better part of the day.

Nice shoes as well Simon, I'm guessing Sidi Genius 5's. I was considering those when i was looking for shoes, but because of the buckle i didn't (doesn't tighten up enough on my feet). Anyway, time to invest in some proper socks.

Have you put your order in? If not can you add 2 of these water bottle holders;

http://www.probikekit.com/display.php?code=a1613

They don't scratch or mark your bottles, the style police might arrest me.

I'll spot you the $3.72 plus postage next time I see you.

Don't be silly, 20g is only borderline weight weenie stuff, you'd have to be closer to 10g for true weightweenieism, though i go for style and function as well. My cages are around 60g each, so they're due for a change, just not sure what to yet.
