Stuart, will you guys be going over the Anzac bridge from Marrickville?
Yes. Last year we were at the start of the bridge proper by 6:25.

Here's a link to last years route which was the three gorges. We'll be turning left at Asquith and doing Bobbin Head again and retrace the route back to Pacific Hwy then back via Turramurra / North Ryde / Gladesville Bridge as in this route (which is off my Garmin). I just don't have the time to re-map the route.

Notes:
Bring 2 bidons.
Breakfast: will be BRIEF - no sit down food as it takes too long (its a popular and slow cafe). We wasted too much time at breakfast last year. Coffee. Egg & Bacon rolls maybe. Lets judge the crowd when we get there. Please bring your own energy food.

See you all on Sunday.

The prospect of the country's premier election analyst coming along has spurred me to join this ride. Hopefully by the end of it I'll be fully informed about who's who in the Terrigals, the Trogs and the Centre Unity factions of the NSW Labor Party.

Yep, there's this bald guy - can't remember his name now, his nan, a dog called nipper and local fish and chip shop owner in Fairfield. But they're all in different factions. That's why I need Antony to explain to me who's who.

I'm sure I'm going to get into trouble for not talking about cycling. So to rectify this I'm going to be choosing my compact crank set for the Four Gorges ride...

Had a surprisingly rigorous ride with the Valley Wheelers this afternoon, plus things that should have got done today didn't. I'll set my alarm for n minus 7 mintes but could very easily turn it off in my sleep, so go forth without me if I do not show and enjoy yourselves.

Unfortunately I'm now out. I was riding out to the cafe and with about 2km to go I hit a monster pothole and got a pinch flat, then when I replaced the tube with my spare I put my 2 CO2's into it but it didn't hold pressure and I was boned. Haven't had a look at the spare yet to see why it wasn't holding pressure but it's been in my saddle bag for 1500km without being used so maybe all the vibration has rubbed a hole in it or something.

My ride time was 5 hours 26 minutes, while the time elapsed was 7 hours 36 minutes (cafe to home).
That's 2hours 10 minutes of eating, resting or waiting.
My question to the panel is this, at what point do we consider a rename.
Perhaps Adventure Rides should be rebadged as Adventure Rests, or Adventure Breakfasts.

No hate mail please, I'm joking, I had a ball. In fact I'm extremely grateful, I now feel much less worried about
next weeks big B2B. So a big thank you from me too.

While this profile looks GREAT,
http://app.strava.com/rides/6765016
5 gorges would look even better, a lot to be said for the compositional aesthetic of odd numbers.

Thanks Stuart. A great ride.

I will admit I only made 3 Gorgeous... As did a couple of others. I won't mention their names in case they would like the wider community to think they did all 4. But we did enjoy sitting at the bus stop on Kissing Point Ride analysing the finer points of council workers completing some road works.

I'm usually a prodigious photo taker but I was struggling to stand up at our breaks, let alone ask everyone to smile. So none from me unfortunately.

The general consensus seemed to be that Berowra was the hardest while Galston was surprisingly short. Thumbs up to Rosie's Cafe who were very quick with our order, despite relegating our group to the trees.

I'd also like to make a shout out to the women of the club. Only 2 on this weekends ride, Aimee and I. Camilla and Eleri had (reasonably) good excuses. But where were the rest of you?

Thanks to all 15 or so riders who came out for what was a great day - even if I just didn't have the legs I thought I would. I'm sure that 30 mins of Philip's waiting time was waiting for me. Having said that, the adventure rides are aimed at getting riders of all levels from the club out together for a long but cruisers pace ride so if you're fast, expect to wait. As it says in the first post of this thread 'Most of these rides, while not quick (C25+) are quite long.'

Also thanks to all those who encouraged me to keep riding, although at one stage I was seriously contemplating the train at Hornsby. Must remember that a long lunch is no substitute for a carb loading dinner before a big ride.

Anyway, I decided on a three Gorges version, leading the four riders on our short-cut to await the main bunch at Kissing Point Rd and then got asked why I went hard when we had lots of time to spare. Truth is I wanted to be SURE we didn't miss them 8) I have a photo on my phone. I'll get it up here soon.

It's funny how we think the same hills are different. I almost rolled up out of Berowra, I found a good wheel and settled into tempo and that was it. The Bobbin Head reverse climb though was a very different story. Every muscle was on fire and every rider was gliding past me. I almost didn't make it. These rides are great. Lesson, pace myself....

So Lizanne, when are you planning the Saturday adventure?

1.8km at an average gradient of 10%. But have a look at the gradient early in the climb. 20%plus at one point.
Run your curser over the profile line and it gives you the gradient at that point.

Brings to mind the Radio Head lyric... "when I am king you will be first against the wall" Only I won't be playing the part of the King.

Alex: for mere mortals not capable of cruising at 70 around the track while holding an anvil in one hand - that is a scary description. If Alex is out of the saddle the whole way up, Justin is off his bike and walking well before the end...

Which is all academic for me as I have no chance of getting on that leader board. There are currently no DHBC riders
recorded on the Wall segment. We will soon change that though, should be fun, in the painful kinda way.

Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. That was my poka face 8) Nah, the 3 of you took off like jack rabbits on the 20%, where I waited for the 10%, which worked better with my gearing and then picked you off one by one.

Anyway the sign in the park, described what was ahead - congratulations to all on joining "The Wall of fame" (pun intended)

Great photos fellas.

Now I need advice. HOW CAN I STOP THE PAIN? Ouch my legs hurt.

Oh. Yes. What happened to Jo? Did she go building on a Sunday at 6am? Jo we were slow - C25 pace with a tail wind.

I pulled a heart string...! Actually, to be honest, I think my fixie is not set up quite right. Was doing a fair bit of commuting on it last week and my knee pulled up very sore.

And I got home at 1130 after the Swans...

But looking at the group, I'm kinda glad I didn't go. Have a very good feeling I would have been left far behind in the Frostfangs...

May I hazard a guess, that even on your fixie, with a bung knee and a hangover you'd still not have been the last up the hills.

What a fantastic day out - gotta love the adventure ride. Aside from the stunning weather and scintillating company was a big thumbs up from a passing motorcyclist in the RNP. Such a simple gesture but it meant so much.

I was one of the 'rabbits' that took off quickly on 'the Wall' with all the bravado and feeling of 'mid 40s youth' only to be ground down by that Cadel Evans of a diesel engine that it Mike. That man is a machine!

Many of you have heard about the Wall now and may be wondering what it looks like. I forgot to turn my helmet camera on for the trip up - but I remembered to switch on it for the descent. That's when all the Otford locals came out of their houses. They really cheered me on. Enjoy it here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ewLH0TVWkU

I did Mike's RPM class tonight at Rockdale. Mike's classes are fun but intense, you will be spent at the end of the hour. A leisurely ride to Kernel will be a great recovery especially as the weather is predicted to be good.

A bit of a change from Centennial Park and I find riding to somewhere different enjoyable if not just for a change of scenery.

I will be there on Saturday.

Analysis of the cyclist social calendar has revealed that there is only one clear Sunday in June, that been this Sunday the 3rd. Apologies for the short notice. So I bring to you the Secret Adventure. Its so secret that even I don't know the route.

Information;
1. Have completed 3 successful rides to waterfall, one of which at C28 or greater. Can comfortably ride in C28 or greater
2. Own a bike, that has more than one gear, or can ride a fixie where no ma(n/m) has ridden a fixie before
3. Enjoy adventure
4. Sufficient income to afford a one way trip on city rail and buy the ride leader a coffee
5. Did I mention coffee?
6. 140k comes to mind, but as the secret hasn't been revealed to me yet, its only a rumor.

OK, who's in
=============================
Mike (good at drinking coffee)

I'm always keen for adventure but at this juncture, the weather on Sunday looks tres ordinaire.

I think I'd be lucky to sneak in a quick spin to Waterfall and back with my rain loving mates from the middies.

I am roadbike-less so am out unfortunately. My fixie (or me) struggles with 80km to Waterfall let alone 140km to a secret destination...

Jo, insufficient N+1. I'll probably ride my fixie

My secret MCCC agent hasn't confirmed the route yet, then I'll publish.

Need to get a heads up as to interest. If there's interest in doing a shorter ride, please let me know

OK kicking it off again for Sunday 10th June. I've got a 140k route leaving Marrickville, riding the top end of the 2009 Non Fixie Century, then terminate at Campbelltown for a train back. But if your not keen on that distance, then nominate the max distance and we can review.

What would be the estimated time of arrival to Campbelltown? The train ride will take roughly 1hr 15min. I need to turn into a pumpkin sometime before lunch so am keen for an early start, possibly turning around before the end to save some time.
