Nov 6 Waterfall alternative #1

Given that the Gong ride is on next Sunday, the way to Waterfall will be a tad crowded.

Before I continue this, can I first urge anyone who hasn't already sponsored the DHBC team going to do so. it's a great cause (MS) and the Gong Ride has long been instrumental in raising general awareness and public opinion of cycling, and just getting people out there on bikes. You can donate to the DHBC Gong team here >> http://register.gongride.org.au/2011-Sy ... cycle+Club

They're almost at their target of $9000! So let's get behind them, and support those who suffer MS.

Saying that I don't know why I'm not going myself, but I've missed the entires now and am not. So I might go to Calga and do the NSW-ATTA Individual Time Trial instead, which is held on the first Sunday of every month. Details here: http://www.atta.asn.au/

For anyone who has not done an ITT it's lots of fun and a great way to start competitive cycling. No one to crash into! Plus this is the one event you don't need a race license for, just a recreational one. It's a great way to test your progress too. You can set a time then go back and try and better it. After that the state titles!

Only problem is that I broke my roadie on the weekend and it's currently a 2-speed. He's going into the shop tomorrow. I may have to TT on my fixie! Is that even legal? I could flip the wheel and go SS I suppose...

TT’s are the only time (besides track) that fixies are allowed!
go for it Camilla!

Calga on a fixie has been down several times, ask Brownie. I think you will take the ladies record (but you need to dress as a hipster'ette)

I'm leaning towards Calga, but there's a little voice that says;
9.30 depart Tempe
9.35 arrive Marrickville

I wasn't thinking about this problem at all, then I thought, I know, let's do RNP instead. Clearly not v. intelligent.

So I don't know what to do. Have I got time to do an ITT and come straight back home with no pie in the sky? have to finish an essay. If we start 1 minute apart you can try and beat me Camilla ;)

An alternative ride is the La Perouse ride. Easily 60km return with excellent scenery and some hills. Ride to Centennial Park and then head south.

I'd be in for a 06:35 or 07:05 LaPa ride if there's a quorum of C27ish folk. Not so keen on going all the way to Calga for an ITT when I can make one myself near home.

But Andrew, there's a ramp start (albeit a trailer) and timing and everything. Your time trials involve you stopping at traffic lights trying to catch a bunch that gets all the green lights. This one has you trying to catch someone 1 minute ahead of you. Much better

Hmm, my regular ITT involves me riding as fast as my little legs will carry me, all the time swearing continually about how foolish I was to get into this situation. I suspect Calga would be similar, but with official timing...

Have a go at the Calga ITT sometime Andrew, you'll enjoy it

D**n you Eleri! With 2 functional legs and having mentally beaten you down by cleverly incapacitating the BF I am sure to catch you! Maybe... But it turns out Ermeningildo is down for the count and out of action for a week or so yet. So I might be be joining Mike's 5 min advendture ride, even if starting from Lewishman. There is a certain, strong appeal to his point of view...

Another option is to ride to Jenolan Caves and back on Saturday

Ha ha Mike. I might do a lot of insane things, but riding that hill on a fixie is not going to be one of them.

Weak effort, break your bike just when I did my fastest ever hill sprint on Tuesday morning. piffle.

Hugo V and I are going to ride some eastern suburbs hills Sunday, if it's dry. 7am from around the Fox Studios entrance to centennial park. Might head out to la perouse depending on how we feel.

Peter T and I are planning to ride the Eastern suburbs with a coffee stop at Watsons Bay. Pace expected to be C for civilised.
We leave Marrickville Cafe at 0635. I hope Pete knows the way because I'll just be making it up otherwise. Feel free to join us if this sounds like your sort of thing.

(Of course this is not a DHBC sanctioned ride, so all the usual disclaimers apply.)

Yes, as alluded to above, there's no official Sun Waterfall ride this weekend due to the Gong Ride being on. Do your own thing.

Will probably join you then. I'll go via the start of the Gong ride as official photographer and see you at Marrickville Road cafe.

I'm tempted for this eastern suburbs ride

Hugo and Rhys why don't you join the unofficial group and do your thing once over that way. Some may choose to go with you.

A few hills, a few wrong turns, a bit of romance (Geoff's 18th Wedding Anniversary pic at Birriga Road), little traffic, good company and a fine morning.

Thanks everyone for a good ride this morning.

We experienced Cruel Peter's return route, but missed out on Eleri's Harden the Female Up shortcut. Next time.
500m odd of descending, and a half-time coffee. And the black socks got an outing (no sock rule today).

Good fun with just a pleasant amount of mayhem - Thanks all.
Andrew
