Hello all DHBCer’s,

The year is progressing and the time has come to book your self in for another year of fun as we once again ride from Bundanoon to Tempe velodrome for the annual –Tempetation- Fixie century in 2011. As with previous years the goal sf an imperial century of 160kms. The route will once again head along the scenic south coast of Sydney through Wollongong and waterfall, finishing at Canterbury Velodrome (Tempe). All club members are welcome if they feel that they up for the challenge so long as they will ride a fixed gear bicycle and have a valid license.

Course: http://www.mapmyride.com/s/routes/view/ ... n/20544560

Unlike previous years this year to attempt to expand this ride with the use of trains we will be offering 3 different distances which all meet up at designated spots along the way.

140 km option (to Stanwell park) – bail out option.
160km option (bypass Stanwell tops climb) – Imperial Century – Encouraged for enjoyment seekers
180km option (full distance)

Entry requirements:
• Must have a cycling Australia recognised licence and be part of a Australian bike club and if not a DHBC member must be able to prove such before starting
• Must be fit enough to complete the designated distance and be able to prove so if haven’t before ridden a fixie century.
• If any known medical conditions must consult your General Practitioner on your health and be cleared to start

Bike requirements:
• All bikes must be fixed with one single gear. Gears can be changed if a flip flop hub is available during ride. No freewheels allowed.
• All bikes must have 2 working brakes and enough brake pad to endure the Macquarie pass descent.
• Steel is real baby.

Ride Rules:
• All riders must comply with road rules at all times
• All riders are responsible for their own safety and if not up to the distance must get themselves home
• Riders must comply with bunch rules and ride rules when needed.
• Australian standard helmet must be worn at all times, by all riders.

Plan:
• Catch the train to Bundanoon on Saturday the 15th of October. Stay at Bundanoon Hotel that night, have dinner together.
• Get up at 7am 16th October, have breakfast at 7:15am at local café. Leave Bundanoon at 8am.
• Morning tea at pie shop at Robertson, regroup. Descent Macquarie pass together and have lunch at Wollongong area. Have a beer at the brewery. Lunch at a local café.
• Ride up the ocean road to Stanwell Park together. 140km option ends here and can catch the train home to meet at the German club for dinner. 160km catches the train to waterfall. Everybody else continues through to waterfall and ascends Stanwell tops.
• Regroup at Waterfall. Ride as one bunch back to Tempe and end ride at Canterbury Velodrome (Tempe) by 5-6pm. Have a shower. Head to the German club for dinner,

Cost:
$45 for the night.

Very keen for this. I might have to increase my weekend rides from ~100km to something a bit further. Maybe Scarborough and back via the RNP?

btw the link isn't working for the MapMyRide.

This is a week after the Scott so I may be in a quivering mess and might just opt for one of the soft options, but I reckon I'll be in!

Hey is any one up for riding up there as well? we go the easier way, up the highway, its slightly uphill, but makes you feel a lot fitter the next day when you go home again.

I'll probably do it, leaving after lunch. I have a RPM/Spin class in the morning

I'm up for riding there. It's the week before Grafton, so i'm planning to have some good form and will need to keep my legs turning over.

Now i just have to work out if i can get 4 weekends in a row off work.... Fixie, Grafton, Warnambool, Pennies.

ill just ride up the highway, it wont be that exciting, just add a bit of excercise to it all. I dont know every one on the list, but hope you are all cool with the 16-km or what ever it is, a lot of it seems to be slightly up hill? And it got cold at the end last year, another reason to leave earlier!

I'll be leaving at 10am after my spin class. Depending on what the other riders do, I'll either ride all the way or catch a train to MacCarthur to catch up. The route I'll ride is Meangle rd, Old Hume Hwy. I've ridden this route several times.

Recommend that you only ride there on Saturday if you are a top end middie, fastie or experienced tourer. Others should save their energy for Sunday.

Lizanne, what makes you think I would be riding there on Saturday?
I believe it was because you also copied this "Exactly which way are we riding down there???? Ive added my name." from the previous post....

This year since this event is becoming so large and last year there was a combination of confusion between money and people withdrawing late, making it difficult to control the booking.

I want everyone to pay $45 upfront to confirm their booking. Then there will be no money problems on the day and it will put the onis on individuals to get their money back who want to pull out rather than on me to control the whole thing.

I see you removed a sentence from your post. May I give you some advice, Mr President. Next time when you question our ability to participate in one of the club's events or complete events successfully, send me a private message prior to posting similar threads as you did a while ago. We don't like to be prejudiced which you clearly did in the form of not booking a night for us. This behaviour shows a lack of respect for, and I believe that, based on the fact that you are the newly elected President, I can say your club members. I hope in the future you give some consideration to your thoughts and ways of approach prior to taking action.
Ok. But there is a criteria for entry into this event which is outlined in the original post. Everybody who has not previously ridden a fixie century before has talked to me in person and confirmed their expectations for the event and been informed of what the club is offereing in running this event. I don't think that this is showing any disrepesct to you at all.

This is a very difficult event and I don't want you too feel left out on the day if you cannot keep up with the bunch. Unlike the C25's on a Sunday morning this is not a no drop ride & it is important that everybody who competes is aware of this before they begin. But it is best you talk to me in person about this.

The fixie century is known as our hardest training ride :) it used to be an ellite group, aimed at cracking people :) now we just call our selves an elite group, but it is still a hard ride that isnt amazingly safe riding down mac pass on a fixie. It could be assumed to be the equivilant of about a 200-240km road bike ride, the hard part being the gear choice that will get you there, and then up the stanwell tops hill.

This ride isnt for every one, though we do have pretty big breaks, especially at the end for people who have cracked :D

(if you want to compare with a road ride, it would be similar to a little ride down to bulli pass and back I would say, so if you want some training on a road bike for it, just head down there and back :)

Yes that's the plan but with other writing. It would be really good to get wool if anyone is offering to organise it? But the price will also go up.

I'll put my hand up for organising wool hats. I am personally not really a fan of the fabric of the previous runs of DHBC hats, wool would be heaps nicer. I'll start investigating pricing etc.

Nope but the hotel is not far off capacity. I'll update the booking tomorrow. Aimee wants in too. Once the hotel fills up we then fill the motel and then after that come up with a new plan....

The Hillbrick... The Colnago has vertical dropouts so won't work. I wouldn't have bought the Hillbrick otherwise...

so i've found a place that does semi custom wool cycling caps.
they embroider for about $3/ pannel
so i was thinking the old school DHBC logo (as seen on the red wool jerseys, any one have a close up pic of it?) and text 2011 fixie century.
i'll put in for a quote today.
any input on looks/price limit would be good.
people willing to pay 20is for wool?

This is the e-mail i just got back
i was suggesting the 4 pannel cap
we can go red/black, red/grey or just all red

if someone can hepl me with a pic of the old logo that would be awesome! or i'll just pull the DHBC logo off the net.
the price is in USD so we could go all the embroidery on one panel and with design+shipping have it $20ish or have the embroidery on 2 places and it be $25 ish

Let me know!
p.s here is the website
www.walzcaps.com

Lizanne -
Thank you for you interest in our caps. We would be happy to make you an all red wool cap for your club. Also, on 25 caps or more we offer 30% off retail for clubs so the cost per cap would be $17.50. The cost for embroidery would be $3.00 per location. So if you wanted both sides embroidered the total cost per cap would be $23.50. If you just wanted to put the text under the logo and embroider one location the caps would be $20.50 each.
There is a one time logo digitizing fee to prepare the logo for embroidery of $60.00. There is no set up charge for text. We do ship to Australia and the cost is $50.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or if you would like to move forward with an order.
Thanks!

I was organising the hats but I have been chasing up Walz for a response to my enquiries about how far we can customise them and haven't received anything back from them.

I was also in discussions with the girl from Rocket Fuel to see if she has time to design and deliver our hats before the Fixie Century.

Lizanne if you want to organise them instead then that's fine. I'm struggling to manage time at the moment as it is.

Hey Simon, sorry about this but Aimee and I are going to move ourselves to sorting our own accomodation closer to the time. We'll figure something out. She can't commit because of her leg and I can't because life is a bit up in the air at the mo!

No probs, I'll readjust the booking when everybody has paid who wants confirmation.

The hats being ordered are these (but all red)

http://www.walzcaps.com/images/sku_121_ ... Red_lg.jpg

with the old DHBC logo

Image

and the text "2011 - Tempetation- Fixie Century Coastal" under it.

The bill of the hat is made from a fabric stabilizer called pellon, so it's soft and not cardboard.
The hats come in 2 sizes

Size Head (inches) Hat Size
Small/Medium 21 1/4" - 23 1/2" 6 3/4 - 7 1/2
Large/Extra Large 23 1/2" - 25" 7 1/2 - 8

and will cost about $20 depending on what the aussie dollar is doing with the american one.

Lets make a list and see who wants a hat and what size

1. Lizanne- Small
