I met the President of Penrith Panthers Cycling club last night at the Cycling NSW AGM and he encouraged as many of our club members to turn out for various events they run, including the Sydney Road titles. This closes on Sunday. As Mike says its pretty fast.

Sorry Mike, Amy has the seat for the Saturday and Sunday.

Now that l'm keeping this car for some time l'm going to look into some racks which will increase bike capacity by 1 or 2. That would be near ***** bike rating :P

I've come down with a bug and am feeling likr %#@$ at the moment. If I don't improve today, I will be a scratching for Saturday, so you may need alternative transport.
Sorry for the hassle

How many km's is the circuit? Seems pretty short for something called road titles. And flat?

Its a 5km circuit, which makes the mens elite race 100kms. Due to the nature of the circuit its always fast, 50+ kms hour average.

Woooooooooohooooooooooooooooooooo - Joanne (trouty) takes gold in WM4 - awesome result and given the way Jo approaches her training a very fitting result. If only her dedication would rub off on me just a little bit ....

I don't, but it stopped raining and when I talked to Mike Clement on the phone - he said it wasn't raining in Penrith - so I had no excuse. During the race of course it rained and it was horrid. When we finished it looked like I did a mountain ride. For those riding tomorrow, make sure you are smart enough to bring a towel and some warm dry clothes.

Well done Jo!!

In the Elite men, i managed to hang in there for 50km before dropping off the back as my legs were getting more tired with each lap. Average speed was 45.2km/hr when i pulled out. Alex managed to stick in there until the finish (100km), though he did say he almost came off on the last corners.

MMAS04 Dudes 10 laps - 50k
- Lacey DNS (MIA)
- Decker 4th
- Clement DNF 49.2k completed
- Weller DNF 49.2k completed

This has to be the slowest MMAS04 race I've ever been in. I was late getting my self ready and did zero warmup, not that it was problem because the initial pace was so slow that I went to the front so to try to generate some heat in my legs. Pace floated between 40 and 30kph and some of us decided that we might as well have a crack at a break, so at a predetermined place, one of the riders attacked with the 3 DHBC riders, but we were reeled in pretty good, then the St George rider turned up, who to my knowledge was the fastest rider, so I said to him "where were you when we did our attack? We needed you", his response was "I got a flat and spent the last 2 laps chasing.

Throughout the race there were various attacks, I tried twice myself. None of them succeeded.

Last lap and I was sitting in 2nd wheel and then eventually Ian went past into the lead, so I moved onto his wheel, the pace slowly increased and then coming over the bridge with 800mtrs to go, I lost the front wheel and crashed, taking out a plastic bollard in the process. Craig crashed into me and his bike ended up on top of me and a third rider went down too. Sorry Craig.

What happened in the last 800mtrs, Ian will need to advise. The St George rider won as expected and Paul Meehan took second. Ian unlucky to be just outside of the medals.

Bad luck Mike and Craig. Sounded like a great ride given the conditions. Are you guys OK? And Dinnerville Mike?

Great (and safe!) finish Ian

Trouty......what can I say, other than get in that car with Camilla and we will see you tomorrow at Dapto! Fantastic

I had a pretty good race. Despite turning up late and having no warm up except rolling from the car to the start line, I felt pretty comfy for most of the race. Was involved in one small break, when Sam (sydney cc) attacked off the front and i followed his wheel, but the others who came with us wouldnt work and we were quickly caught.

I tried to get up the front on the last lap for the sprint, but there was a lot of riders bumping shoulders, who didnt want to let anyone past them. I was about mid pack going through the last corner on the last lap, and had the back wheel slide out on me. I was very very close to high siding but somehow managed to stay up, and in the process scare everyone behind me.

Wish I had on been on the front for the sprint as my legs were feeling quite good.

must say......not happy Jan!!!!
As mentioned it was a slow race and I was tres shabby early on (been off colour all week), as the race went on I was feeling better and better. I was in a great position coming into the finish (although I did have some hesitation as I did not want to jepardise my handicap at Wagga) but was taken out in the crash (note to Mike - stay off the white lines in the wet!) and then was hit from behind. AAAAGGGHHHH!!!!!! Minimal skin lost, but a buckled back wheel, derailed seat and a scratch on the new Baum. After 'molto' cursing I got back on and finished about 7th I think.....what could have been????
As they say, "if you don't fall off you are not trying".

A bit of bad luck....and a bummer about the scratch on the "new" Baum. At least no scratches on the "Old" Craig. It was pretty wet and horrible out there. We had a crash in our grade as well with a rider getting knocked cold out for a few minutes. Best of luck in Wagga.

You are right - better a scratch on the new frame rather than a fracture of the old femur! Also well done on the win - bet you are glad you took Mikes advice and showed up!

That means that you are nice and relaxed. Always a good sign if you are sitting in the bunch. Watch the Olympics, it isn't uncommon to see the starters yawning, a sign that they are very relaxed.

It also shows me as finishing despite that I stopped 5mtrs before the line, got first aid and then rode back the other way, ie I didn't cross the line.

Doesn't actually specify whether riders finished or not, as i'm in the results too. Does indicate i wasn't the first to pull out though.
