Criterium Racing: This Sunday 20/12/2009
Location: Dunc Gray Criterium circuit
Start time: 7:30am- 8am
Expected finish time: 8:30am-9:30am
Grades: Slowies (C), Middies (B), Fasties (A)
Cost: $5 for racing
Prize money: nil.
Distance: approx 30kms but based on your handicapp. Racing works so that riders are given an allocated start & thus an equal chance of winning!!!

The plan is that everybody meet at Mick Mazza's at 6:30am as usual & ride out together race & ride back as like last month. The route has been found to be suprisingly safer & quieter than expected.

If anybody chooses to drive out or is coming from another direction & doesn't know where dunc Gray is; here's the map:

Depends how late we get back from Illawarra? WOn't all you boys want to have a sleep in...I am sure I will? If we get enough riders in the low grade, I will try and wake up.

Cmon guys,

This is a great crit and Simon has done a great job to build this race up from nothing. James F even tested his head on the wire fence at the sharp bend down the bottom of the track.

Its fun the more people we have as its so much easier to race in small groups of 4 people plus each grade, as opposed to one or two.

A big call out for those in C and D Grade.

Show your public support below for those who can race.

For those without a racing licence, please let us know you can come out for the ride to watch - its a really nice ride out.

Also, there is a prize.

Its a monthly hamper prize from our new SPONSOR, Marrickville Road Cafe.

Was it you Christian who won it last time? If so, can you elaborate on the goodies you recieved.

It will probably be a late return, may not be too bad though, we used to always ride waterfall after opens. In terms of the low grade you guys/girls will all have to work it out. I've noticed that since starting this event there has always been a chorum of about 8 guys who generally always show up for the faster grades despite ability as there is still a pretty big gap between the fasties, but the slower grades will only ever enter if they have people to ride with, despite having a handicapp to make for some fun racing. I have no real control over the slower groups as I can't lead that one by example, so you guys/girls will have to???

I was going to try and make it abit more interesting this time round by creating a team event but I don't think we will really get the numbers for it this time. But I am happy to run the Crit again even if it is low numbers as it's always good fun!!!!

So just to clarify this handicap rule. Can lower grade riders jump on a higher passing grade?

Thanks for the clarifications. So it sounds like we all need to count laps and the number of times we've been passed and by whom (apart from SimonL and AlexC). Otherwise does anyone remember how many laps each grade has to do? 30km at 800m/lap?

Amy, you weren't the only DQ'ed rider in our club crit, nor the first. I was DQ'ed in the first event for getting back to the correct grade after the first 2 laps. ;)

who holds the invisable pink jersery?
i think its camilla.

whenever i race our club crit i never know where i am in the race, or how many laps to go. its gets a bit muddled towards the end.

and yes vic it was worth it :D

I can tell you, at the last crit where I ran the lap board it was dam difficult to tell what lap everyone was on.

I recommend that you work out how many laps you are ahead of Simon/Alex C and you subtract that from the lap board. Each time they lap you, you reduce the subtraction by one.

Ok ok Simon, you have made me feel guilty enough!! I will just have to make sure some one wakes me up in time for the next morning...then I should be in. As the captain...you better make sure the bunch goes out slow enough on the way out to Dunc..I don't want to die before I get there. See you Sunday? Kiwi Aimes are you in?

Ideally we need 4 people doing lap counting and 4 lap boards, but that ain't going to happen.

Some of bike computers have a lap function, so if your really concerned, then there's yet another opportunity for bike shopp'n

I think each of the grade bunches will need to work together and do the count together. Amy, if you breakaway from the rest of us, then we won't count for you.

Hmm ok, there needs to be a lap counting method Weiyun as ive never raced the club crit and known when the last lap is - or where i am in the race. if each grade can count each lap and know how many times theyve been passed - sounds great, but there will be confusion if nobody else knows.

OK - If Cycling Australia ever answer their phone I'll have racing licence before Sun and I'm in for this which means we NEED AN E GRADE for "the real slowies". Surely E must get 7 laps to encourage the really unfit to race?

I've just upgraded my recreational licence to a race licence so I'm in for this Sunday. Can't wait...first crit..very exciting.

I suppose I'll be in D grade..or keep Stuart company in E?

For the others trying to get in touch with Cycling Australia, try calling them on 9339-5800. The number printed on the existing licence cards (9664-3002) might be for their old premises.

They are there today :D I tried the number yesterday and no answer. I've now upgraded my licence too so I'm in - E grade can start with D grade (for the tow) but get 2 laps credited - sounds fair to me !! 8)

Question? Do you really need a small chain ring on the Dunc Gray crit course?
I've got a dodgy TA 39T that the chain isn't sitting on well so I just keep it in the big ring.

Stuart,

It will be a pleasure to see you out there on Sunday

Last time I started E grade / Juniors 15 seconds after D grade, but they ran one less lap than D grade.

You should go fine with that

Well Done Ian, the hamper looks great.

If I understand Chris correctly, B grade actually rode 40 laps, one lap more than the designated 39 laps.

I know how difficult it is to do Chris's job.

I don't think that can be called a decision but an automatic DQ. IIRC, that specific rule was explained to everyone at the starting line and is a standard rule used in all similar races across the world.

Actually, I've realised that the real winner was Peter in E grade, as;
- C grade were DQ'd when they tacked onto B grade which Tomas did a pull.
- D grade were DQ'd when they tacked onto me after I overtook them after being dropped.

Peter claim your prize LOL

E grade "bunch" made a sudden side-way split across the track right in front of the C bunch during an overtake, causing unnecessary hold ups. So E was also DQ'ed early in the race.

Correction: D grade were never Dq'd. Anthony, Jules, Hugh, Colin and I pretty much raced our own race the whole way through. So technically do we win!!! Yay...Thanks Ian, we will come and connect the Hamper

Sorry Jo, UCI Technical Director has just issued a violation notice on your use of a junior frame to gain that extra aero and speed advantage. So effectively you've been DQ'ed along with anyone who drafted off you in D. 8)

E grade "bunch" made a sudden side-way split across the track right in front of the C bunch during an overtake, causing unnecessary hold ups. So E was also DQ'ed early in the race.

I resent the insinuation that E grade got in anyone's way 8) I had to go right and Pete left given the positions we were was on the track in those corners and the speed that B&C came up behind us with little warning - you guys were going too fast !!!!

This thread is way to funny, perhaps we should call Mark L the winner because he retired before B was disqualified

That's it! By retiring so early, MarkL showed contempt of the club, the renowned Race, race organizers, sponsors, fellow racers and wasted potential training benefits. So position nullified.
