Mudgee Road Opens 11-12th July

Just letting everyone know, the Mudgee road opens are coming up soon. Entries closing 28th June.

Saturdays race is a 90km handicap, reasonably flat course, riding past multiple vineyards. Sunday is a scratch race, with distance grade dependant. Very enjoyable racing at Mudgee, so hopefully we'll have a good crowd.

If you're coming along, let me know and i'll get some accomodation booked, or you can book your own if preferred.

Just want to get a head count of who is thinking of doing this. Im certainly interested, just got to book some accomodation for me and the girlfriend. Any recommendations on where to stay?

Last year we stayed at the Mudgee Motor Inn. Nothing too special, though you don't need much apart from a TV with reception for SBS to watch the Tour.

I need to check who's coming as well, so i can get accomodation booked. Just need to speak to Al, but haven't had much time this week due to exams, but now they're done i'll get onto it. I can book accomodation for you if you want, probably get around to doing it on Monday.

Well after saying only yesterday that I was going to race this, ive now been told by the girlfriend that im not allowed as its one of my good friends 21st that weekend. Whilst both he and I dont mind me missing his party, apparently im not allowed to go none the less.

Alex & Mike, are either of you planning to come in Al's van. Planning to leave at around 6am, which will give us plenty of time to relax before the race (maybe too much, but it shouldn't matter).

I have been struck down by the dreaded man flu this week so it'll be instructive to see how I go on the weekend. It's super frustrating as part of my training plan this year was to peak for Rosemount but given that was cancelled I've moved things to peak for this weekend and now I'm coming into it off a full week of bedridden-ness.

- Tbone - felt crook and quit
- Wallman - flat tyre
- Alex R - only 100mtrs behind the winner
- Mikesbytes - dropped
- Al and Bill bringing up the rear

Sun;
- Tbone - DNS
- Wallman - don't know, I left before he finished
- Alex R - 4th
- Mikesbytes - dropped, but got into a 6 man/wim paceline, finished a few minutes behind the winners
- Al got lost and rode down a dirt road
- Bill - don't know, I left before he finished

4th in Div 4 for Alex.

I've caught the Flu, and it decided to present itself on Saturday, so it all seemed a lot harder than usual, and after 25km i turned around, got back to the van and had a rest. I've basically had a bit of a headache since then, but some drugs seem to be taking effect now.

Yes, I flatted on Saturday, making it 3 races in a row that I have been forced to drop out of. As I was fixing my flat on the side of the road and looking for a cat to kick a photographer came up to me and said something like "Look, I know that you're feeling pretty bad right now but things could be worse - I've just locked my keys in the car. They're in the ignition and the car's running!" She had a good hour to wait until she could expect help! Up until then I'd been going well, we'd pruned the original 20-odd starters in our group plus assorted hangers-on down to 8 and were rotating really nicely. For the guys that know something about power I'd averaged 248 W over almost 2 hours before I flatted. After the flat I was ready to give the whole cycling thing away, or maybe just the road and stick to the track where the scope for disaster is pretty much limited to crashes.

Anyway I showed up for Div 3 on Sunday and managed 12th. I was all set to launch an attack in the last 1.5 kms and had actually stood up and given it a couple of pumps when I got baulked by a bit of hip and shoulder action and decided to just sit back down and wait for the sprint.

Well, its clear that I need to do some training, being dropped on a hill is something that normally doesn't happen to me. True I had 6 weeks off earlier in the year, but I think that no longer working at Chatswood is hurting my hill climbing ability, so I'm going to reintroduce some RNP rides.

On Sundays race after being well and truely dropped a group of about 6 of us charged down the big hill and caught up bucket loads on the lead bunch, which had a line of about 10 cars behind it, we caught the cars and then filtered thru until we got past them and was only 30mtrs off the bunch, the problem being that the bunch was now going up hill, we attacked the hill and 4 of us, including me got back on the back of the bunch, but I red lined myself doing that was dropped straight away.

Anyway it was real cool rolling thru the motorcade, kinda like you had gone back to your support vehicle and was then filtering back thru the support vehicles to the peloton.
