For the romantics out there, some special hours, at a special place, doing a special activity.

That's right lovers, how do you like the idea of riding around Tempe velodrome for many laps and flinging your partner around you to win more points? Sound like fun? Of course it does!

You get to pick the appropriate partner, and hey, same sex or mixed is okay here – don't you worry about that! Indeed, all you need to do is worry about turning up and having some fun on the big concrete oval with rather steep sides. Not sure about the madison, or first time racing on the track? That's ok too, because there will be other races appropriate for those that don't swing.

You'll be finished in time to have a nice candle-lit dinner in the evening!

Get your wheels on, gates will open at 2pm for a 3pm start.

You'll need a gold licence, or will need to purchase a day gold licence for $33 (please let us know). This is a sanctioned Cycling NSW event, category 5 (club only). It allows for 10% participation from other clubs.

Track Races 2015
Feb 14 - Club Track meet - Valentine's (Madison or Omnium)
Mar 14 - Track Open plus limited junior grades
Jul 18 - Junior Track Open - Only junior events, short daylight hours
Oct 10 - Track Open plus limited junior grades

Well, from what people have told me, the Madison is as popular as Tony Abbott in a backbencher paceline, so here's the draft programme for Saturday:

1. Flying 200s
2. Eliminations (if enough riders)
3. Match Sprints
4. Scratch races
5. Aussie Crawl (track stand and a sprint)
6. The DHBC Inaugural (1/4) Hour record! (because everyone’s doing it!)

Gates open: 2pm
Start: 3pm
Finish: Between 6pm and 7pm
Entry fee: $10
Prizes: Yes
BBQ? Yes
Thumping love tunes? Possibly
Level of seriousness rating: Depends on how much you need to impress your Valentine

Register your interest by putting your name on the rather short list below. Juniors welcome, seniors welcome, spectators welcome —

1. James R
2. John C
3. Mike C
4. Blah W
5. Eleri

Unfortunately this was truncated to 10 minutes, because a rain cloud rolled in, so we cut the ride short... but... the results* from the first 10 minutes are:

Tom B – 7150m or 42.9kph
Alex C – 7050m or 42.3kph
Alex D – 6980m or 41.88kph
Blake – 6830m or 40.98kph
John C – 6760m or 40.56kph
Nick B – 6650m or 39.9kph
Rohan – 6370m or 38.22kph
Colin – 6270m or 37.62kph
Dougie – 5770m or 34.62kph
Tess – 5460m or 32.76kph
William – 4530m or 27.18kph

* I also failed to record the wind speed, but there was wind. And rain. Did I mention that? Also note that this event was held with everyone on the track at once, no drafting allowed, not any fancy bars, just drop-bars of the normal flavour. Position had to be in drops, no sphinx hands, supermans or jazz hands.

Special thanks to Richard and Alan for manning the BBQ, I’m not sure if anyone else got stuck with it, but thanks if you did. Thanks again to Jenny for running the canteen, and Cindy for looking after sign-on and transposing many names onto a results list! And thanks to Jo for working out the prize money. Thanks to Amy for faithfully recording all the times and placings. Also thanks to Ian Carswell for providing the PA and mildly inappropriate music for minors ;)

Of course a really big thanks to all those that turned up and raced, or brought someone with them that did, especially those that came from far-flung cricket games. It was wonderful to see so many people there.

Happy Valentine's!

You wanted love music James. Birds 'n' the bees...
anyway, does anyone know which song that is? It always seems to play when I'm up the other end of the track taking photos.
