While today had the end of the road season with the postponed NSW Junior Criterium Championships, yesterday saw the start of the NSW track season with the first day of the Open Track Carnival. The event had a number of unusual race formats including "Snowball" "Tempo" and "Belgian Win and Out" to get the brains going as well as the legs. It was a very friendly and entertaining event but sadly there not huge numbers. Unusually there were more women than men racing and to mark the fact the women's prize money was higher than the men's.

DHBC was represented in several categories from U15 Junior to Senior A grades. Max Santos and Rohan Haydon-Smith handled themselves very impressively in each of the U15 races with several podiums and a one two in the JM15/JW17 Snowball (a variation of the points race).

Joanne Troutman, who thought she had turned up to a womens track training camp only to find herself entered in competition, raced well in all races including a great effort to finish first in the Women's Handicap.

Tom Bolton had a promising start to the track season with first or second place in each of the Men's A Grade races. He fought it out in each race with St George/NSWIS rider Sam Cox. Two of the races ended in photo finishes, including the final duel - an exciting Belgian Win and Out which the commissaires decided was Tom's by a splinter.

The second day of the carnival comes next Saturday. Hopefully the event will be equally entertaining and DHBC will be well represented again.
