I am slowly putting together program for 2013, which starts June 14 2013

You might like to note the modification to the team challenge. Please do not read this as an anti DHBC total domination clause, rather a revitalisation to the word Challenge.

Specifically:

The Hillbrick Club Challenge.

• Riders must be from a CNSW or CA registered club or UCI recognised nation
• All points from riders in the Point series of same club will be accumulated to form the clubs overall score.
• Refer to RAW Track points system http://www.rawtrack.com.au/index.php?topic=9.0 for points breakdown

Changes for 2013
• The top two clubs/team on points at the end of the of the penultimate night will ride off on the final night of RAW in an Italian Pursuit to be declared RAW Track Club Challenge Champions
• Each club will ride off in an Italian Pursuit consisting of 10 riders, one of which must be female, one female +40, one U17, one U19, one +35 and one +45. The remaining can be of any category. (nb a U17 may be substituted for an U19, likewise a +45 may be substituted for a +35 etc.)
• The first rider will complete 2 laps, all others will complete 1 lap at the front.

without over complicating it....
I may need to add an extra clause.

only riders who have previously (i.e. between June 14 2013 and Sept 6 2013) competed at RAW are eligible to represent their respective club.

I love that last clause.

I did hear from an inside secret contact that Stelios was already out to procure numbers, offering to pay entry fees for people to show up, organising bikes, and (although not confirmed) I heard they have been busy training at Altitude at Tenereef with Wiggo. Let's hope their performance is a lot better than Wiggo's at the Giro, and they don't run scared and go home half way through the series.

Go DHBC.....Bring it on Lidcome!

Can someone tell me more about RAW Track ?
In particular how the events occur?

from : http://www.rawtrack.com.au/index.php/topic,4.0.html
"• Racing format Most Nights will follow this format

7:05

Round 1 Warm up Scratch

Round 2 Wheel-race for special grades (not on every week)

Round 3 Feature Sprint Event

Round 4 Feature Endurance Event

Round 5 A+B 35 Lap combine C+D 25 Lap Combine "

What does this mean? Does it go by age groups? is it a free for all, with the exception of Round 2 (on some weeks?)
Or does it go by age group/gender/division (like what happened at Bowral , and Christmas Carnival) ? - in which case what time does a normal Friday session end ?
I'm asking in particular for U-15
Also - what were the attendances like in the previous 2 years?

I've moderated this thread to remove all the posts about potential teams.

We know we can field at least two Italian Pursuit teams with the requisite categories. So let's leave it at that for now.

Track Captain, Alex Chubb, can pull the team together at the appropriate point in RAW series, which I would suggest is somewhere around the 2nd last week.

Peter - there are mixed age / gender Divisions. I rode Div 5 for the last 2 years, that's also where Tom Bolton started off. Each race goes through the Divs - Novice, Div 5, Div 4 ... Div 1.

The Combine at the end is not counted in the pointscore and usually Div 5 doesn't ride it anyway. That means you can get away by about 9pm at the latest if you leave straight after the Div 5 race.

Races go in very quick succession.

More people than the Christmas Carnival. 35 DHBCers raced at RAW last year but not all the time and not at the same time.

Div 5 was won by a 13 or 14 year old last year btw. He and I were neck and neck for a while :-)

Ta Eleri, ouch if you were in Div 5...,
Just start at novice seems prudent,
No real point putting my kid into a grade that he's only going to get whipped by riders heaps faster.
But will that grade last the whole raw season?
when or who determines which grade/ division one should be in?.

By the way, not sure if this needs updating , http://www.dhbc.org.au/home/14.html still as RAW 2011 details/ links

Novice isn't a race as such. And the races aren't real races with points. It's more try the track - no-one rides it more than once or twice. It's Div 5 for him I reckon.

And it's highly variable. The races get broken up into heats depending on the race. Crafty will often put the kids and women in together. Frances will be fine in Div 5.

We are having all sorts of problems with the website at the moment. Lots of things need updating but we can't. But thanks for the pointer. Will add it to the list.

Yes, we're trying to get some more people to come along; the more people to play with, the better. Yes, we'll loan them bikes if they want them, but we always do that. Hell, we'd even loan one of you guys a bike if you came out to Lidcombe without one. Paying people's entry fees? Nah, we can't afford that given that we're now sponsoring a men's team, a women's team and two junior teams (Pixies and Jets).

What Stel has been doing is working hard with the juniors and, particularly, making sure they don't go over to the dark side of cycling. He's been distributing these:

See you on the boards.

BTW, I think we can all agree that the real enemy here is Penrith.

Hey Big friendly Vegan, you defend or deny all claims except Tenerife. I think you guys have been at altitude for so long you are unaware that no one even owns a video player any more. We are state of the art here at DHBC, send your juniors over to the Bright side and we'll convert those videos to CDs or USB for you. We can't gaurantee you'll get the juniors back though.!

Glad your supporting Crafty with more riders, see you on the boards.

RAW TRACK
2013
STARTS THIS WEEK

RAW Track (Race All Winter Track) is back for 2013.

RAW TRACK Newsletter 2013 sponsored by:
http://WWW.Bicisport.com.au

RAW Tracks 2013 major sponsors:

http://www.twebikewheels.com.au
&
https://babici.cc/ [/center]

First week’s Program
• Round 1 warm up Scratch
• Round 2 no race (wheel-races run at best every second week pending sponsor)
• Round 3 sprint (6 up’s over 3 laps)
• Round 4 Points Race (3 sprints)

• Round 5 Combines

Blue indicates Series Points scoring rounds

Explain these races
Sprint- RAW Track sprints are usually run as 4-6 ups over 3 laps the first few laps are usually spent sizing your opponents up and positioning yourself for the optimum explosion to the finish. It is not uncommon for a sneaky rider to attack early in the hope of holding a lead to the finish. The sprint is a test of power, speed and above all, tactics.

Point score- Riders must score points by sprinting for intermittent sprints every 5 laps for bonuses (5, 3, 2, 1 points). Lapping the field scores a bonus 20 points, consequently losing a lap to the field scores -20points. Winner of the race is the rider with the most points. Although the lapping rule is indicated in this description, at RAW track the race is generally too short to secure the lap consequently we generally don’t allow lapped riders back in.

BSCC- RAW Track Canteen
• I am delighted to announce that Bankstown Sports Cycling Club will again be hosting a Canteen at Raw
• The Canteen will provide the basics and it is hoped that it will be well supported by our riders and spectators
• Profits raised will be going towards covering costs at their Wednesday night training session which in the past have run at a loss.
• Not only will we be supporting the canteen but also promoting the Wednesday Training session in a hope to turn both initiatives into profits.

Be the first to take Peter Buckingham’s challenge by asking for a double dose of the “not-4-wimps” sauce.

Rain is not a problem at the DGV
• In contrast to a lot of NSW racing over the last two months, Rain is not going to interfere with RAW Track Racing.
• Despite this, please be prepared for a chilly experience.

Points for 2013 series starts week 1
• For every week you attend you receive 10 points
• Everyone is allowed to miss 2 RAW nights without losing too many points.
• In rounds 3,and 4 top 4 place getters receive 5,3,2 and 1point respectively
• From Week 10 place getter points are doubled.

Sign-on’s and Licenses ….. Bring It!
• If this is your first RAW Track for 2013 you will need to show your license …….It is everyone’s first for 2013
• I record your license as sighted and you are fine for the season.
• Sign-on’s are in Point-score order.

Race entry fees for 2013
• $20
• Unemployed/ students $12
• Family discount are available (just ask)

Pay up front for the entire series
• This year I am offering the opportunity to pay for the whole season for the cost of 10 weeks
• The offer is available for the first two weeks only and will be adjusted by 1 week if you decide to do this in week 2

Money troubles?
• If you are experiencing money troubles please do not hesitate in approaching me so we can come to an arrangement.
• I would much prefer to see you race than stay home.
• In the past I have had reduced rates for families, pensioners and uni students and maintained confidentiality.

From the RAW forum http://www.rawtrack.com.au/index.php/topic,628.0.html
Is start time still 7 with warmup from 6:30?

From Paul: first race at 7:05pm Warm up will start earlier than 6:30pm

In 2013 we will not have Junior Development; RAW has become too hectic during Warm up to accommodate. We are exploring the concept of creating a JNR RAW on a different day.

On this point of juniors at RAW. The rule is second U13 and up are eligible to ride. This must be strictly applied. Please do not ask for exceptions.

Really important questions.
Be the first to take Peter Buckingham’s challenge by asking for a double dose of the “not-4-wimps” sauce.
1/Does one need RAW entry for this?
2/How many points is this worth?
And lastly, (and maybe most importantly)
3/ is the double dose of the sauce WADA/UCI/ASADA sanctioned?

I haven't laughed that hard since reading the 1978 Women's Weekly recipe cards!

I almost feel compelled to come ride RAW next Friday, to earn 10 point for the club - my once chance before leaving the country for 4 months. On the other hand, it would be quite something to see Lidcome beat DHBC in the overall points score, only for us to take out the challenge in the Italian Pursuit!

Madilead- The pace in this race is set by a Madison team (see Madison). The bunch follows the Madison team for ??laps until, with 5 laps remaining the Madison leaders take off leaving the bunch to sought out the winner in scratch race style finish. The Idea of this race is to allow the lower grades to experience following a Madison change (which is a key skill in learning to ride a madison). The pace of this race can often change with the experienced leaders putting in a few hard attacks to stir up the bunch.

Can anyone shed some light on this race format ?
As I understand it, a madison is swapping in a fresh rider to maintain the teams overall top speed.
How is a Div going to be able to follow a madison team and not blow up before the 5 lap finale ?

The madi-lead is done by two people only. Its basically a keirin using two A graders as the motorbike.

The keirins I've seen were all done as a relatively steady, and somewhat increasing pace.

Can I assume then that objective here is for the group to sort of slow down(?) before each madi-lead handover and accelerate immediately after?

Re: RAW Track 2013!

Posted: 26 Jun 2013, 14:49
by christian
A good madison team doesn't slow down for the changes. Unlike a keirin the field will be quite large, like 15 or so. The pair will accelerate just like a normal kierin and with any luck drop half the bunch, hopefully the sprinters.

Thanks for the well wishes. We're only trying to do what Dulwich Hill has been doing for the past few years.

Re: Stel. He set a goal last year, lost weight and won Div 4 and the Fat Man's Wheel Race. He's been putting on some muscle this year and has gone up a grade. I think next year he'll be ready to give Div 3 a real challenge. You don't carry that much weight around without building up some leg muscle, and Stel has a strong competitive streak. Unfortunately, Div 3 has Rhys, Ben, Lizanne and several other red menaces. Maybe Stel needs a beard.

I think it is great that you guys are so excited by the club competition. We've been putting a lot of resources and effort into developing a road team this year which makes it difficult to attend road opens and RAW as there is often clashes but well done on all this organisation it has been along time since another club has put in a challenge.

I was talking to Crafty about this on Friday night in previous years in this situation I would have rallied the troops to increase points rapidly, we have been down in points a number of times over the years in the first few weeks and come back and looking at DHBC attendance on Friday night it's possible, there were a lot of regular faces missing. But with the change in rules it doesn't really matter if we come first or second it all comes down to the last week and alot of peoples situations have changed in last year including my own making it difficult to attend every week.

So well done Lidcombe, it's a fantastic effort! I think it would of been more entertaining with the old rules as we would be forced to fight back but as it stands that is a big ask and won't change anything as we will see you in the Italian!

We can't use it in the winter, anyway. People use the infield to kick balls around. The good news is that it's getting a new boundary fence, new surface, and the infamous corner is becoming a curve again!

Top two clubs at a glance

1. Lidcombe 1939 points total
36 members have attended RAW 2013
Average points 53.9 per rider

2. Dulwich Hill 1936 Total Points
34 members have attended RAW 2013
Average points 56.9 per rider

DHBC are scoring 3 points per rider more than LACC. Over their 34 riders this equates to 102 points. If this trend continues DHBC will hit the front next week by 17 points

Those detractors who said last year we were only winning because of numbers - just take that back thank you :-)

Was chatting with LACC rider Kerrin in Saturday's race and he brought up about the RAW points score. I mentioned that it doesn't matter who gets across the line first, because the 3rd club was so far away in the points, so it boils down the the italian pursuit

DHBC riders Troy Martin and James Orton (amongst others) have the unsubtle finger pointed at them by Crafty at the bottom of this weeks report (names in very small print).
http://www.rawtrack.com.au/index.php/topic,682.0.html
However, James races Div 4 already, or maybe Crafty meant to suggest he should move up to div 3?

yeah, i was a bit surprised by this.
had a couple of good weeks but im still only fourth overall and almost 30 points behind nigel apps.
i guess it's a compliment to be considered good enough for div 3, so i'll give it a crack. might need to start training properly now though!

I can't wait for the last night of RAW, I will be watching from the sidelines with my cast, feeling very disappointed i cant race the IT. Thanks LACC and big friendly vegan for providing the funniest forum posts which have kept me updated. Good luck to everyone, but of course a bit more luck for DHBC.

Did I miss something about Div 5 riders not getting points in Team Night?

What is the reward?
• Members of the teams individually will receive a bonus 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1 point respectively towards the TWE series point-score.

This week's Wheel race at raw is the Fat-mans. Having only a vague idea what that could be, I did some research and found the following info from 2012

http://www.rawtrack.com.au/index.php?ac ... opic=530.0

This week at RAW Track will be the much anticipated “Action Snaps Fat-Mans Wheel-race”

Since its conception Six years ago in a discussion over several beers in the Handle Bar Tavern, the topic of this race has been a fixture of every track cyclist’s conversations. Debate has raged as who would be, by weight, the strongest rider.

This unique handicap has been one that bucks the trend of dieticians all around the world. The handicap has been by weight, whereby you are rewarded with a better starting position the heavier you are.

Changes were made in 2010 to incorporate our shorter statured fat riders to ensure our fatmans wheelrace was reserved for those of high fat content rather than those of high percentile muscle content. Again in 2012 the qualification will be on BMI (Body Mass Index). This should aid our short podgy friends.

Here’s how it works
• Entrants will be measured at the velodrome.
• Entrant’s weigh-in will be done in cycling race clothing with no shoes. A pat down will take place for any contraband (extra weight).
• Your height and weight will be entered into the laptop to determine your BMI.
• The top 10 BMI’s will qualify for the race.
• The lowest BMI will start at 0m
• The highest BMI will start at 130m
• Everyone else will start at corresponding marks determined by the above formula on %

The Race
The event itself will be in a 1km Handicap. Riders must provide their own sturdy handler for the start. The winner of the race will receive
• Your weight in $1 coins i.e. 110kg = $110
• Perpetual Fat-Mans Trophy

Just another example of where LACC dominates over DHBC. We could fill the whole field in the fat man's race!

It is likely that LACC and DHBC will ride off for Club Championship at RAW this year.

However, under the current rules, DHBC wasn't going to be able to compete as we couldn't field a full complement of riders. We will have no woman 40+ (Camilla and I are overseas, Trouty is out broken).

Crafty and BFV have kindly agreed to amend the rules and allow:

· Women Master 40+ can be substituted by a Junior Female.
· Likewise this can be done in the men’s category and in reverse.

We have agreed that both clubs will post their team, including reserves, on the RAW Track website on 8th September.

Alex, as Track Captain, will choose the team and reserves based on our best chances of winning. His decision will be final but I know everyone will want DHBC to retain the championship and will get behind the team.

I'll be somewhere near Ventoux with Camilla and Ted. We'll be cheering you on from there.

I think half the fat man's field was LACC. You guys only had one up there and poor John Caley had to give him a start. I offered one of LACC's more hefty holders, in the spirit of friendship.

DHBC was also represented well and the new jackets look quite schmick. They're actually the same colour, style and cut as my soccer jacket (Ermington United), which means I can't wear that around where any LACC cyclists will see it. I don't want to be accused of supporting the enemy.

Can anyone tell me if I can have a go at RAW? I have a race licence, a track bike and competed gloriously at the Bowral Track Carnival? What time do i need to be at DVG and approximately what time does it finish?

Cheers Dougie

Dougie - YES you can!!

You will have to ride novice first time up. How serious are you? I'm thinking serious. So turn up no later than say 6:20 so you can warm up on the track. You'll need to sign on so take your licence with you. Your last race will probably be about 8:45 I reckon. Maybe 9. Probably depends what races are on.
