DHBC Juniors Training, News and Statistics 2 January 2013

Hi All,

Wishing you all had an excellent Christmas and Happy New Year.

We still had a good turnout starting with 11 riders, with the school holidays keeping people away.

Welcome to Louie Hidcock, our newest member, who started on the warm up track and then ventured onto the main track late in the session with Lizanne’s assistance.
Also welcome to Ashlee and Alexander Jones, North Sydney CC, who made the trip over the harbor to come and train on the velodrome.


The session started with the usual individual warm ups and then Paceline drills. With a slight mishap between turns 3 and 4 we lost two rider to a fall. No major injuries but skin off the knee.

Next, a 2 lap time trial for Ashlee and Alex, very good times from both.

Next, 1 lap Screamers. The first up were Will and Xavier, with Will coming in first. Second race, Luka, Adam and Alex, it was very close with Alex coming in first then Adam and Luka. Third race, Ashlee, Ruby and Lizanne, who starting at the start on the home straight. Lizanne , then Ashlee and Ruby. Lastly Francis v Taku with Taku over the line ahead of Francis.

Next, Catch the Bunch. 4 rounds for each rider.

Next, Italian Pursuit. Will, Adam, Alex, Francis and James on the back straight v Xavier, Luka, Ruby, Ashlee and Taku on the home straight. Everyone put in an excellent effort and the finish was very close with Taku being only half a wheel behind James. After a sort rest, round two. The team swapped starting sides and I stepped in for James. Another great effort for the now tired riders and the finish was not as close.

We finished the session with a Motor Pace, 20 laps, 5 @ 25kph, 5 @ 28 then 10 @ increasing speeds with Lizanne being the motor leading the train.


Juniors Christmas Carnival

The Carnival was a great success. Luka competed in all 4 days and Adam competed in 3, missing the first day at Dunc Gray. On the last day at Tempe, Will, Caitlin and Francis, Adam and Luka competed. All putting in great results. Congratulations to Will and Caitlin for racing in their first events. The event was a great afternoon with 37 riders completing. Special thanks to the Pete, Michelle for manning canteen and all the other helpers.

• NSW U15 & U17 Time Trail, Sprint and Individual Pursuit Championships are being held over Fri 11 toSun13 Jan entries close this Sunday 6th
• 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival from Thursday 17 to Sunday 20. Go along, watch and cheer.
• National Junior Track Series in Melbourne , Feb 29th.. Can I have expressions of interest for U15 & U17 riders interested in attending.
