Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club

Halloween Omnium. I know we are a bit behind the times & I will trial a week night event but it is easier to run the evnt when it is already dark and is a date that works for me;

Thursday night under lights omnium. For this event racing will take place with no overhead lights and instead riders must bring their own to install on their bicycles. It is expected that this event will be fantastic for spectators as riders will also be given different coloured glow stick for identification!



Where: Tempe velodrome
When: Thursday night the 10th of November
What time: Gates will open at 6:30pm & Racing will start there after.
Who can come: Racing is designed and sanctioned for everyone in the club with a racing licence.
Races: as in original

We will have post ride beverages.

SO come along have a feed and enjoy some racing....

*** assuming there are no issues booking the velodrome.

I've been looking for glow sticks and these look pretty good. We could tape one to the bike and put a few in the back pocket, the cost of racing will go up.... But the fun will go upper!!!

I play AFL Thursday nights. But if we have a full team I will try and sub myself out...

I have ordered the glowsticks but the more light/colours we have the better.

Cost of racing will be $10 to cover the cost of the track and glowsticks.

Please start to get your lights together. The better the lights, the safer the racing and safety is the number one priority. If your lights are not deemed to be good enough for safety reasons you will not be permitted to ride.

I'll be at sea for this, but I'll try and get some glowsticks to someone before then.

I would think that most lights will be sufficient, having never done this before I'm not sure how much visibility each rider will need. I know the accumulative effect will be powerful.

I'm keen for this one. Sounds like fun, but I'm not sure whether I will be away for work then. If not, I've got a light and a cyalume stick ready.

Ok, I'm in!

I don't have any proper MTB headlights, just little knog ones - do you think they'll be ok? It occurred to me that bright Ayups etc might be a bit blinding anyway, looking over your shoulder etc. On the other hand, I assume you'll be able to tell when someone is close behind you, so maybe the lights will actually make things fairly safe. Maybe?

Hopefully the lights will be pointed more towards the ground, rather than in your oponents eyeballs!

Bugger, I really wanted to come to this one, it would have been great to see, but I leave for Melbourne tomorrow. If anyone doesn't have a suitable light, I can lend them one for their bike, however, they would have to get it tonight as I fly out first thing tomorrow.

It was definitely a lot of fun and the timing of a full moon couldn't have been better.

It would be a major aberration for me to sneak under the times of both Llewellyn brothers; perhaps the stop watch was low on battery and running slow by the time I eventually got around to the starting line...???

Yeah, was good fun and a great idea. Can't wait to see photos - it looked pretty good from where i sat. The moonlight was probably the winning difference as far as practicality was concerned. Many thanks for organising this. And for the commissairing and timekeeping. Looking forward to the Shoe Race next time!

It was nowhere near as dangerous as I expected - fine really. The glowsticks marking the edge of the track were a good idea. It was a bit hard to tell who you were chasing in the pursuit, or who was making a breakaway - I should have memorised the glowstick colours...

Looking forward to seeing some of the photos.

OK the photos are pretty rubbish but at least they give you a sense of what the night was like.
