Hi Everyone,
It seems everyone's refreshed and enthusiastic from the school holiday break and the roller session last week - we had 13 junior riders training on Wednesday. Or perhaps it was the fantastic performances by Australia in the Commonwealth Games cycling that got you going? Welcome to two new faces, Callum Goldsmith (U11) from Southern Cross and Ewan Rozdal (U13) who's considering joining DHBC. Thelads took their first training session on the track in their stride and now we have a really good bunch of U11-U13 riders attending regularly. It also means we can run more races in training, which should provide new challenges and more fun!

Training
With the sprint racing season fast approaching, Phil Kelly focused on sprints and Flying 200s. The sprints were hotly contested. Well done to Thomas Cornish who took two out of three of his sprints against older riders, also to Tom Bolton and Aaron Frater with three 1st place finishes in their groups. Times for the Flying 200 continue to improve: Hageman broke 14 seconds, while Frater (Lidcombe-Auburn), Thompson and Bill Bolton were all sub-15 seconds. Do let me know if I haven't noticed you've had a particularly good personal result, so I can shout it out.

Clothing and Equipment
Clothing is now kept at the club under lock and key. Jersey's are $100 dollars and there are still a few of the older style tops left for $60, in small sizes. Let me know at the beginning of the session if you'd like to buy something, so I can arrange it.

With the sprint series and the team sprint not far off, you will need to ensure your bike meets the roll-out specifications for your racing age group. Details are available for the Cycling Australia website: http://www.cycling.org.au/?Page=9497

Racing
Phil Kelly has invited those of you with a road bike and a racing licence to compete in the Southern Cross Cycle Club criteriums on Sundays at Waratah Park. Use the link below for more details: http://www.southerncrosscc.com.au/index ... &Itemid=57
I'm told they're great fun, very competitive and well organised - a good way to get more racing and road riding experience.

Those entering the Team Sprint, must have their entries in by the 19th of November and their bikes ready for competition on Sunday the 5th of December at the Dunc Gray Velodrome. You may also like to enter the Cyclecover Junior Track Carnival on the 20th of November (entries close 7th November) or the 29th Junior Clarence Street Cyclery Cup at Dunc Gray on Saturday the 27th of November (entries close 14th November). All details at the Cycling NSW website: http://www.nsw.cycling.org.au/cy_nsw/ca ... =2010/2010 Calendar.htm

Small Victories
Hugo Thompson managed to complete his first ever ride to Waterfall and back (about 80Kms) last Sunday with the C25 group. Well done son - even if you did look a bit shattered afterwards! If anyone else is interested in doing the ride, let me know. Big medals to the ride leader Eleri, Pip, Jock and the others, for making Hugo's first ride safe and welcoming.

Don't forget to register for the Sydney to Gong ride on Sunday the 7th of November. We'll organise an optional meeting place for juniors & parents who want to ride as a group. Hugo and I are just $15 short of our fundraising goal now:

News
DHBC Juniors Captain, Hugo Venville, is still globe-trotting, but not for much longer. Here's his reply to my facebook message about when he'll be back:

Hugo Venville October 21 at 6:44am Report
either sunday or Monday, depends on wether I do the Sydney Sprint Series or not. I've told all the guys about having a tp session next monday, and they're all keen, but unfortunately because of school camp I won't be able to make it next wednesday. I think Lidcombe starts this Friday? Is anyone going? Also, I had a look at that schools comp in april - they're including track racing this year.
