Hi Everyone,

Magpies and bare (bear/hair) legs have reappeared - must be Spring! What a fantastic turnout on Wednesday night - 12 junior riders in all with our friends from Southern Cross, and one potential new member Liam Doyle, who'll be getting a start next week. Please make him welcome, and help him out if you can. Thanks to Phil Kelly for managing the growing bunch so well, and all those who assist him. Competition is definitely heating up along with the weather. Even the warm up turned into an accidental handicap race. Some very impressive times recorded for the Flying 200m sprint. Thomas Cornish (U11) very nearly broke the 15 second mark, Chris Hageman (U15) and Bill Bolton (U15) were neck and neck - Chris edging out Bill with 14:32 to 14:57 respectively - the gauntlet has been thrown down! Hugo Venville (U17) ripped up the track with 11:77. Competition should get even stronger when Henry Baird returns from travel - see you soon Henry? We finished with a thrilling wheel race - elegantly handicapped by Phil. Chris Kesoglou dug deep, and spectators thought he might just hold out for a win, but in the end he had to settle for 4th place, with Tom Bolton, Thomas Cornish and Hannah Kelly taking the top three positions on the line and Sam Weller bringing up 5th. Well done all of you. Thanks to the handlers for making it possible.

Bike Week
Don't forget Bike Week @ Tempe Velodrome on the 25th of September. I'll be giving a short talk on DHBC Juniors on the day and we'd like the juniors to put on some exhibition races for spectators. Please let me know by return email if you are available to race on the day, so Simon Llewellyn can factor us into the schedule. Gates open at 10am after the slowies ride, with a Breakfast BBQ for all participants - proceedings close at 2pm. Volunteers to help with the event are encouraged and welcomed.

Team Training
DHBC Juniors is striving to enter its first ever team in the NSW Team Sprint Championships coming up at Dunc Gray Velodrome on the 5th of December - so we'll be focusing on team spring training Monday nights from now on. You can check out the results from last year's meet on the Cycling NSW website: http://www.nsw.cycling.org.au/cy_nsw/ra ... tm#Results Unless anyone has any objections, we'll select the team based on form. Entries must be in by the 19th of November, so anyone who wants to be involved will have to have a racing licence by then, and their bike must meet technical specifications by race day.

Talent
A nice bunch of DHBC members got along to the fundraiser by and for the Ashfield Little Big Band last Sunday at the Concordia Club - to support junior riders Seamus (trumpet), Sam (sax) and Alexander (sax). I for one had a great time and was thoroughly impressed by these talented young musos. I hope you reach your fundraising target and have a great time performing at the Moruya Jazz Festival later this year. Medals to the musicians and the DHBC members who showed their support. :P

That's all for now,
Keep Rolling,
Michelle Brown
