Hi Everyone,

Fantastic training session on Wednesday night highlighted by the first in our point score series. Congratulations to Chris Kesoglou, who dug deep to stay in front of older riders (with bigger wheels) to take out the inaugural race, a one lap handicap! Kudos also to our handicappers Phil Kelly and Chris Venville who did a great job levelling the field and thanks to all our starters. Everyone who entered gets one point, the first five over the line score extra.

Riders: point score
Alexander Kapruziak U15 1
Hugo Thompson U15 1
Bill Bolton U15 1
Seamus O'Sullivan U15 1
ChristopherKesoglou U11 1+ 5
Hugo Venville U17 1 + 3
Thomas Cornish (sX) U11 1 + 4
Henry Baird (NS) U17 1 + 1
Adolpho Velez U17 1
Tom Bolton U13 1
Hannah Kelly (SX) U15 1 + 2
Sam Weller U13 1

Training also saw the formation of DHBC Juniors' first pursuit/time trial team, who are training under the guidance of Simon Llewellyn and Alex Chubb (medalists in the 2010 NSW Track Open Pursuit) and Team Captain, Hugo Venville. They're aiming to skill-up for the State Titles in November. At the moment the team is for U15-U17 riders, but if we get enough riders in the lower age group, we can always form another squad.

Training stats and results have been emailed.

This Weeks Hint:
It's really important to know about the bike you are riding and racing on, especially the gearing ratio you are using. It's simple - just count the teeth on the chain ring - that's the big ring in the middle and then count the teeth on the rear cog. Check the wheel diameter (usually 700mm) Now, compare the numbers on the chart at the Cycling Australia website on the link below:

http://www.cycling.org.au/default.asp?P ... ip/20013/0

As you can see Junior riders are restricted by age to certain ratios. Track cyclists also change their gearing depending on the type of veledrome and event they are riding. It's handy for you to collect a set of rear cogs and chainrings as you get more into you track cycling so you can adjust your bike for optimum performance, or to meet racing specifications.

If you've got time for a little homework, could you check the gearing ratio on the bike you are riding and let me know if it meets the restrictions for your age group?
Thanks everyone - Roll On...
