There are high vis elasticised rain covers that go over backpacks.

Re: Race Weight

Your waist should be measured at the narrowest part, usually around the same height as the belly button, but definitely not around the pelvic bones (you're not measuring your hips). There's nothing definite in this case as Mike is acting as his own control and does not need to conform to the need o...

Re: Race Weight

There's no "right way". For your purpose, just decide how you want to measure and stay with it eg. Across the pelvis bones on the sides and belly button at the front.

Do the triceps pinch test and see if you can thin down your fat layer. Mine has "grown" a bit in the last 4-5mths. ;)

Don't forget also that your body would accumulate fluid when you are training hard, and that can easily add 1-2kg. Much of the tenseness in your aching muscle can be explained by the fluid accumulation.

Re: Race Weight

I've been thinking about adjusting my weight by about 5kg. But what I'm unsure about is the impact on strength. In the end do I just end up with the same performance as I'm 5kg weaker? Completely dependent on where you lose that 5kg. If the loss is in fat, then your power/weight ratio goes up. If y...

Well, still there are many cyclists who have completed the tour to the West Coast. But just be aware of the potential risks and have the necessary safety gears. Otherwise it's a really beautiful world out there.

Self reporting of accidents have very little legal value. :( So yes, call the cop if deemed appropriate.

Re: Tassie Sojourn

We went to Strahan a year or two ago in December. The climbs are major and many rural roads are not that wide. We went past a few bike tourers and also saw a few tremble on the edge of the road as logging trucks and other vehicles flew past to overtake at close range. Hi-vis gear is an absolute must...

Re: SCAM Warning: Very cheap high end road bikes

Yes, have seen quite a number of those scam jobs over the years. The warning signs are, 1) Price is too good to be true. 2) Inconsistency in their ads and messages. 3) Use of Gmail/Hotmail/Yahoo email accounts. 4) Western Union or other un-orthodox payment methods. 5) No feedback on Google searches....

If you are happy to hunt in the second hand arena, then I wouldn't restrict the options to just Giant. Fact is, irrespective of the premium paid on named brands, once they are pre-owned, their worth falls dramatically. So at a budget and hunting, keep your eyes out on all brands. As suggested earlie...

Re: My little tour

The climb out from Jenolan Caves is pretty steep and long. I took my bike there on a 3 days stay at the Cave House a year or two ago and the ride up the west side just about killed me. No distance to warm up but just a straight upward ride. And on the way back down, it almost melted my brake pads an...

Did you not have a confirmed ticket? Unless it's because of weather issues, then the airline should have put you up in a hotel. Pretty tough to have to spend the night at SYD.
