Sorry Lizanne, thats my fault. I slept through my alarm and roled out at 6:30. i didn't think anyone else was going so I ended up riding straight down the hwy. Did run into Julio on the return run.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to make this now. Pia and I are going to go to Cowra the week before for Bike North's Tour de Cowra which has a bit more of everything ( http://www.bikenorth.org.au/cycling/tdc11/ )

I still highly recommend the mudgee ride. Always good fun.

I can think of times when I've beaten ultra-skinny riders up hills and failed to keep pace with the big guys. Unless your gunning for A grade I seriously wouldn't worry about it.

Only real bakery/pie shop is on the 200km ride (Pie in the Sky en route to Mt White).

Usually I'd avoid the route via Roseville Bridge although riding with 60 others makes it a lot easier.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for teaching me about Eugene Christophe although I didn't break my fork or require hospitalisation for two months after riding Milan San Remo with frostbite. The U-turn added about 40km to the ride and yes I did enjoy a beer back at the Olive Bar.

Yes compacts cranks and at least a 27 on the rear are advisable if you don't want to walk. There are parts of Tawonga Gap that are much steep than Fitz's hill.

Hi Dpash,
I have some spare compact cranks (50/35 Shimano 105) you'd like to give them a try. I'm not really sure to give advise. I prefer spinning to grinding, but each to their own. I havn't done the three peaks or alpine classic before so I don't know how hard it is.

Yeap, there are plenty of dumped bikes out there that can be fixed in no time. Some better than others. Avoid the ones wuith plastic headsets!!! I aslo took the cranks off one dumped bike to turn it into a balance bike for my nephew but found it didn't work as well (for a littley) the balance bikes ...

Great report Alex. Sounds like you had fantastic ride. Finishing near the lead bunch in B grade is no small achievement in this race.

Yes, if they are supervised by an adult who takes responsibility for them that's fine. There is one long uphill towards the end, but most of the ride is easy.
