I'm not aware of any specific UCI rules in relation to pedals, except that the width of the chainset, cannot exceed 380mm (handlebar width) including pedals, and the pedals cannot create a fairing of any sort, which provides an aerodynamic advantage to the rider. Also notice how far out the front wheel is sticking. This bike has massive amounts of fork trail, and will be really slow to steer, even on the ro...

Track geometry is generally "tighter" than road geometry, which just means that the handling is more twitchy. This is not necessary for the velodrome, but it is preferred. You manouvre around other riders in very close proximity when racing on the track, and you want a bike that responds i...

Agree with Jimmy. When you "effectively get out of the saddle" on this bike, you slide your arse back up the saddle. This reduces the traction over the front wheel. There will be times when this bike's front wheel will skid. A skidding back wheel is something I can live with, but a skiddin...

I'm also up for this one. You guys can experience some of the hill climbing I have to do on my morning commute.

Re: Dulwich Hill spotted
Wearing my ONCE - jersey, Tour De France version. The ONCE team jersey was always yellow, except in the TdF, because the race organisers believed it was too close to the leader's yellow jersey, so they made ONCE change the colour if they wanted to race in the Tour. ONCE chose a very bright and highl...

Re: race tyres
Not worth changing your tyres just for a race in my opinion. I would have the race bike set up with racing tyres all the time. You will get sick of changing the tyres pretty quickly. You won't notice the additional wear if you have another bike you are doing most of your riding on.

Re: race tyres
I have had no issues with Schwalbe Ultremos. They are currently my favourite road tyre for racing, training and commuting. I am not a fan of the Conti GP4000s. They are very good, long wearing tyre, but have no grip in the wet. On a bike, traction is pretty important. Loss of traction on your front ...

For Sale: Campag Record Pro-Fit Titanium Pedals
I have a set of Record Titamium Pro Fit pedals up for sale. They are used, but in immaculate condition. They came with my Zullo track bike, and have only been ridden on the track. The previous owner (Tony Rule, CEO of Continental Australia) has had a bad back for a while now, so I know they have don...

I already do. Yep. Mee too. The only way to ride fast! This morning I recalled an incident that happened to me riding through Chatswood about 15 years ago. A car full of kids sped past. The driver must have just passed his driving test and been given his Ps. As the kids drove past one of them shout...

Re: Dulwich Hill spotted
Yesterday, I was driving home down Lane Cove Road at North Ryde, and someone in a DHBC jersey was powering up to the M2 turnoff. I squeezed through the lights and the rider eased up. Looked a bit like Dougie. Had a large duffle bag atop his back. There was no time to yell "DHS". I have con...

Chances are it was probably painted by Star Enamellers 20 years ago.
They still do all of Jim's custom frames. They did Rainbow's green frame with the reflective flecks. Also doing Lindsay's custom Jim Bundy right now.

The best in Sydney is Peter Fleming from Star Enamelers. He restored one of my Colnagos and I'm just about to take my Five Star down for his magic. His work is exquisite. He just restored Lindsay's PX10 too, and according to Lindsay, "it's better than original" and faultless. You will wait...

Well done Jo. Nice equipment there too!
Since I'm racing in the team sprint on Sunday, can someone clarify what the situation is with handlers? Does Cycling NSW supply them, or do you supply your own, or do you have the option for this one?
Thanks...

This is great, and pretty funny in places. Look out for... - The Le Mans start; - The flat bar bike; - The furthest distance a rider can throw a bike into a river. Many more highlights here . I haven't noticed bike shoes getting more expensive, but I am vigilant for the deep discounts that pop up every now and then... I would suggest looking for bargains in UK & Europe before USA, on Ebay or elesewhere. For a start, Cycling is almost as much a fringe sport in the USA as it is in Aust...

Re: Saturday slowies -- Rally for Safe Cyling?
This rally is a bit of a let down. Been keeping an eye on it over at Sydney Cyclist, and it seems to be asking for more narrow little bike paths and shared paths. To me, that's not safe cycling, and I want no part of it.

The Merckx will be fine on the track as long as speed remains above ~20km/h. At low speeds, the bike is more vertical, which can result in pedal strike on the highly banked ends of the track. A few people ride road bikes at Dunc Grey when RAW is on, and they are fine, mainly because Dunc grey requir...

Re: NSW Masters Track Championships - entries close Sunday 2
I got clarification from CNSW today about the team sprint. Combined team age must not be below 135 years. This is good news, since it means I get to compete. I saw Camilla's team on the start list for the women's team sprint too. Agree I need to do some training. That will consist of riding to work ...

I have entered a team sprint team in the Masters over 135 category. Only problem is that on one page they say the combined age is 135, and on the next page, they say it's 150. Have asked for clarification, but this may determine my team, which as of yesterday was me, Karzie and Lindsay. I may have t...

Mike is your steerer 1 inch or 1 & 1/8th?
If you need a 100mm AHead stem for 1 inch steerer & 26mm bars, you can have mine. It's on the Bundy track bike which I will probably be selling.

Hoy had just gone around everyone of the guys that crashed, while they were upright and going as hard as they could. He was streets ahead of them, and would have won regardless of whether there had been a crash behind him or not. He has the complete right to celebrate that win.
