Lot of DHBC in attendance on a windy day. I rode c with Nozzle, Rhys and Matt. Nozzle attacked with about 5 laps left and was away for three lap before being caught. I had a go on the second last lap. One other came with me and we got a good lead, passing b grade on the squircle . Alas, the head win...

Just me there today as far as I could see, showing the DHBC jersey in C Grade.
The race was a tango: slow, slow, quick, quick, slow.
It ended in a bunch sprint, and I came about 7th.

Good to see you ready to pin on a number.
These days Heffron d grade is just juniors. You would be fine in c, or try the Vets or MWCC West Head road race.
And no one likes losing, but it happens more often than not.

Only one other DHBC rider, that was Eugene, not in club kit.
I rode the second C bunch and went OK before getting blown away in the uphill sprint.
This is a very well organised race on smooth, quiet roads with a few undulations for interest.

This is a little off topic.
I have a joining link and take the chain off to clean it.
Does it matter whether or not it goes back on the in the same direction?
Both ends look identical, so unless I mark one somehow, there a is 50/50 chance of it going on back to front.

I've done the RNP, once. I've tried fasties a few times, and it is just too fast for me. Last time I was dropped on Captain Cook bridge and rode the rest of the way solo, without being caught by middies. It seems to me that the fasties pace is set by a few, very strong riders. Lights red, cyclists stop. Simple. If those lights disrupt the mad-mile sprint, then that is good thing. Busy roads are not the place for unofficial racing. These days there are many cowboys on the Waterfall run. I'm talking about non-club riders who still want to ride fast. Mix some of these, slowe...

Well done Philip! I rolled around in C grade without achieving very much. The pace of the bunches is a perpetual source of angst, and posts. Those who turned around missed out on the excitement. A ford station wagon spun-out just after passing the bunch going around that sharp left hand bend coming onto Grand Parade. Fortunately she missed the riders on the front, but the car finished up sideways, blocking both lanes, and a the tailgate ...

Re: Cootamundra Haycarters & Recovery: Sat-Sun 12th & 13th M
I've been thinking about the tactics of our lead bunch of 8. Contesting the sprints broke up the rhythm and used up a lot of energy. If the eight of us had agreed not to sprint and just worked together, we might possibly have stayed away. More likely the scratchies would have just gone that little b...

Re: Cootamundra Haycarters & Recovery: Sat-Sun 12th & 13th M
Saturday: Chilly and windy afternoon. I got dropped out of the fasties warm-up, which was not a good omen. In the race I was in a group of 40 + riders, at 14:30. Rolling out of town I found myself near the back of the bunch. Onto the main road and they sprinted off very fast, settling at 44 km/h. Th...

Campagnolo Bora One carbon tubular wheelset
I'm coveting a set of these to use as race wheels.
I've seen them on-line for $1410, which seems like a lot of bling for the money.
Never having ridden tubulars, can I ask: are they more trouble than they are worth?
Will I go faster?

I finished the 150 km OK, although the shortcut back to Hornsby and a cold beer was tempting,
Well done all DHBC riders.

Mechanical advice - Fulcrum Racing 1 Rim Wear
The rims on my Fulcrum Racing 1 wheels are showing wear, with the braking surface having a concave profile.
There does not seem to be any wear indicators, how how to know when to replace?
Also, are replacement rims available/affordable, or do I need a whole new wheel?
