Re: Conspiracy theory Cancellara won Roubaix on a "doped" bi

I'm surprised it's taken this long before someone has outed the practice. For the last couple of years I have thought that it's very possible to do. You have bikes that are so light that you can comfortably add the weight of a small electric motor and batteries and still have them come in just over ...

Correct Mike. Your "standard loading" is what I referred to as "brute force". I'm not sure what your cranks are made of, but it is widely accepted that 7075 Aluminium (which is what Campagnolo made their cranks from) is not a particularly suitable material for cranks due to its (...

Re: Nonbikerelated talking thread. (nsfw)

All of these failures are fatigues failures and no rider can crack a crank by single blow brute force ie. There are no "high power" riders. I don't want to get too technical, but this crank shows two sorts of failures... The dark area failed shows a progressive fatigue failure, which is a...

Of course if it was a Campy crank it wouldn't of broken :)
I think PMP cranks are the most campy cranks I have seen, although I have never seen one fail.

Campagnolo cranks do fail in this manner...

If you look at the top picture of those two pictures of the broken Nervar cranks you will notice that there are two distinct zones visible in the cross section of the broken crank. On the shear plane, towards the outside face of the crank is a dark zone, and on the inner side is a lighter zone. This...

Plenty of alu frames get re-sprayed and the changes in the alloy (if any) is probably inconsequential unless the rider is a 200lb gorilla (a long way to go for Orphic).
What's a "200lb"?

Re: getting chain tension right on a singlespeed/fixie

Anyone can stretch a 1/8" chain. The term "stretch" is not technically correct, as it is wear rather than the size of the load under tension that elongates the chain. Dirt and grit gets inside the wheels that spin on the pins, and the dirt acts as an abrasive that cuts a groove into t...

Yep. Classic pics. They are a bit sketchy on the detail behind some of the pics though. For example, the picture of Judith Arndt and the short summary fails to mention that when she gave "the bird" as she crossed the finish line in Athens, she was giving it to the German selectors. She had...

Re: getting chain tension right on a singlespeed/fixie

Cheap chainrings and cheap cranks are often poorly centered. It's not a problem if you have a derailleur or chain tensioner, but it's a problem on a fixed-gear bike. One of the main reasons you pay more for a good track crank and chainrings is the high-tolerance precision machining of the parts to e...

White carbon is a bit like white chocolate. It's white, and it's nothing like the real thing, except the name. By the way, using the word "Carbon" is nothing new. The Campagnolo marketing department worked that out in 1994. They produced Ergopower levers with plastic hoods to replace the a...

I say campy all the time. People know what you're talking about, so the basic premise of communication is there. What's the big deal? The big deal is it's wrong and it borders on being an offensive term. Aside from the obvious slur in using the term, there is no "y" in Campagnolo, and no-...

Just for the record, you can say Campagnolo, Campag, or even Campa if you come from a German speaking country, but Campagnolo is never campy. Only the severly retarded (read USA) use that term. There is absolutely nothing camp or campy about Campagnolo products. I suggested a for sale section when t...
