Re: DHBC Valley Wheeler vintage ride and talk - Sat 16-17 Au

The talk went well with about 15 people in attendance, of which 5 were Valley Wheelers.
JohnJ brought along 4 of his vintage bikes and we had a 6 panel photo display providing a brief history of the DHBC.

The ride on Saturday 17th August began at the Tempe Velodrome and left precisely at 10.30am. We had 13 riders; a good mix of rusted on steel bikers, recent converts and just good friends. Made our way via the Cooks River route, down through Kingsgrove, Beverley Hills, Oatley and eventually made it t...

Dunno about the rest, but I am now convinced beer has no cleansing properties and a overly fatty meal does nothing for one's cycling abilities.
Back to my 'monastic' (in comparison) diet.

Re: 2014 Sydney Classic Bicycle Show

A great time was had by all. Bumper year again. Felt numbers were up slightly - what do others feel? Had over 50 bicycles in the Concours event and an amazing array of 23 vintage bike stalls, incredible. The velodrome infield was busy indeed. A special thanks to the 'Valley Wheelers' who organised t...

I think Jeff is referring to an 'Alcon' or 'Alcone", not an Alon bike. Alcon cycles was run by Bill Connelly who had a shop in Victoria Rd Marrickville from the 1940s till 1970. Bill was an active member of DHBC and made frames for many members. He died in around 1974. Several DHBC members cove...

Regos still coming in. We need vollies, so PM Dayna/Scully (see entry above) if you can help. Bigger ...

Marc - Don't be so defeatist. As I said there are no losers on this one and no major costs, so I reckon it has half a chance
Greg, I think my point is that we won't win this one straight away. It will take time ;)
Reward goes to the one who strategises and is persistent. Bit like road cycling.

Re: Sunday's Accident

A pro-cyclist decision like this will always be frowned on by state gov. They will reject it without doubt. However the issue here is that we start making an ISSUE of this. We highlight the problem and propose a solution. Gov then ignores us. Anything happen from here on, the spotlight is on the gov...

Most if not all of the roads we use on the way south are main 'regional' roAds, which come under state gov bodies. Need to lobby your peak body first, me thinks.

I wouldn't be too worried about the pedals at this moment. Enter the bike. Make special mention of its history. The more info the better.
Will see if someone can help with the pedals.

Penny Farthings at Evandale Tasmania, Feb 2014

I believe we have a sizeable contingent of DHBC members attending the Penny Farthing Championship/Festival held at Evandale, Tasmania, this weekend. Colnago (Mapei?) for sale in Katoomba

This one looks similar to Mark L's. I think it is in team Mapei colours. Probably from the late 90s or very early 2000s.
At $850 it is a good buy. Too small for me.

Borrowing long ladder to do roof guttering

Does anyone have a good quality (very tall) ladder I can borrow?
I need to (with the help of a friend) to renew parts of my roof guttering. Would be great if access to Platform-type ladder would be great. Need to be able to extend to at least 3 to 4 metres or more if possible.
