Re: Advice on new road tyre

I’ve been using GP4000s for a few years now and I think the sidewall is vulnerable. I’ve noticed that the sidewall threads start to come away well before the tread is worn. I’ve had one sidewall blow up on me while I was off the bike, resting at the Sutherland servo, just after the mad mile sprint. ...

I was keen for a fast Waterfall ride.

Not sure I have time for RNP and as the bunch numbers grow the speed will slow and so too the risk of mechanicals - which means that I might do the return leg solo.

See you tomorrow.

Cafe to Kurnell this Saturday at 6am

I'm planning a quick ride to Kurnell, leaving from the cafe at 6am this Saturday if anyone wants to join me. There will be a short break at Cape Solander for a salutation to the sun and to wave at any passing whales. Pace will be middies+. You know the drill, add your name to the list if you are kee...

I might be tempted too, noting that entries close on Sunday. I will struggle on the climbs.

I might be stuck for transport though. Could anyone help me out here?

Re: NSW Clubs Team Time Trial July 20th

Not sure why it came off, over many years it has been on the roof for thousands of km without incident. I think it was a combination of the strong winds, the wide rims, and carelessness on my part. It certainly was distressing see it in the rear view mirror, bouncing along the road. The components ...

Re: Nowra to Sassafas n Back

This was my first introduction to road racing and I must say that despite the conditions, I really enjoyed it. The wind was very strong and made all the more difficult when it was swirling over the top of the ridges, around treelines and at times gusting up to maybe 65-70k/ph. That made it difficult...

That's very exciting news. There must be a bevy of qualified club members who can assist. I'm not one of them. I tend to ignore instructions and just get on with building / constructing things. I realise that this is very unusual practice for a man. But I'm really looking forward to going on a ride ...

That's weird. I have these bottle cages - at least I think I do. Maybe Elite changed the size - but I'd be surprised if they did. I too use the Camelbak 710ml insulated bottles and they do need a little persuasion but they do fit snugly into the cage. In some ways I find this very reassuring. It's a...

Cycling brethren, This wet weather is getting me down. I eschew wet weather cycling on the grounds of safety (and laziness). I’m going to start porking on weight soon if I don’t get some exercise. Noel and I looked out for you but didn't spot any cyclist resembling a pirate. Not an eye patch nor a parrot anywhere in sight.

It was a pretty cruisey but very pleasant ride - 32kph avg and not a single Strava medal between us.

Re: Garmin 500 firmware update 3.0 --> 3.2?

I've done the 3.0 to 3.2 upgrade. No issues (yet). I think it was mostly for power meter compatibility and I don't have one of those.

A slightly different startup screen, otherwise I can't tell the difference.

Sadly my speed hasn't improved as a result of the upgrade.
