Can't see the MBF sticker or the M on the handlebars, but I can tell you that MBK was what Motobecane evolved into. A number of pro teams rode MBK frames in the early 90s. It's a great verge find.

The Powerhouse Museum has one of these. The one on Ebay is from much later than the Powerhouse one or Lizanne's example. Chrome is a funny substance to work with. It responds best to regular polishing and waxing. If you lacquer (or clearcoat) over chrome, there are two problems: 1) It don't look nearly as purdy. 2) You prevent the chrome from "breathing", which is a fancy way of saying that you are much more...

You need to define your measurement units, otherwise E can effectively be as large as the maximum number of rides you've ever been on. Des Kidd is a DHBC legend, and I'm pretty sure he's an Aussie champion in his age group. He used to ride RAW a couple of years back, and used to come down to Tempe back then too, but I haven't seen him for a year or so.

Re: Brake technique
If you are descending, you should push your arse to the back of the seat, so you have more weight over the rear wheel. If you are cornering, you should weight the pedal on the outside, as if you are standing on this leg, almost unweighting the saddle. Clearly you can't pedal whilst weighting just on...

Nice one Shrubb. I was half way through typing a whinge about the ineffeciencies of pedalling while braking, which in my opinion is good for heating up your rims, but not much else. I was up to the point where I was comparing co-efficients of dynamic versus static friction, but your answer is simple...

Re: Brake technique
I remember reading an article where Greg Lemond stated that his technique for high speed cornering was to brake with both calipers before leaning into the bend, but then leaving his hand on the rear brake lever through the turn, to scrub off the last bit of speed while turning. This got him through ...

Re: Help! Quill stem won't come off
This is a pretty serious problem, but it can be fixed, especially if you don't mind a bit of damage to the paint. Brute force is the first option. Stick the stem in a vise, and twist the frame. Stop before the frame experiences plastic deformation though, or you'll be riding a crabbing bike if you s...

One of my fave's. I talk about this one alot. That's the Flying Dutchman, Piet van Kempen, showing off in 1936. Despite what the internet would have you believe, he's not racing in a six day race, and it wasn't taken during WWII.

Where does that brake cable go, drum brake on the rear wheel? I like the extra bar on the fork to stiffen it up, looks like an after thought. The bars on the fork are there to prevent the fork from vibrating on an uneven road surface, and causing a harmonic "death wobbles" scenario. It wo...

Re: Older eBay items.
Too big for you, Lizanne. Plus, those older frames don't have the same geometry as modern frames. They have a much shallower seat tube angle, and usually a similar slope to the forks. This makes them less twitchy than modern track bikes. Bad for track riding, especially on banked tracks. Potentially...

Re: A good idea or a problem child?
I've never been a fan of Softrides. They were only ever used by the freakiest of triathletes, back in the day. One of the problems you face is that if you have a big meal, your seat height changes, since your weight is different. It's hard to adjust your position when riding too, since the bike seat...

This is not a plot against short women. This is the fuddy duddies at the UCI proving how incredibly out of touch with reality they are. I have a few bikes, as most of you probably know, and, whilst I have not measured them all yet, it looks like at least half of them do not comply with the 89mm peda...

Those yellow fixies with a RRP of $800 have got to be the crappiest bikes I've seen ever. Cranks with no way to remove the chainring? That was low end in the 60s! That will make changing your gearing an adventure. Same with the seatpost, with a clamp mechanism that takes you back to chromed steel po...
