Tam Can't do it this year. A few DHBC'ers did it last year when it was in October. We had a dry course. It is very tight and twisty although if it rains it becomes a quagmire in places. Lindsay had the right idea of carrying a rag and a small bottle of chain lube for a quick drivetrain clean. Probab...

For those looking for a simple ride that's a good introduction to mountain biking there is the 15km Casual Fling.

This is untimed and suitable for kids (13 and up is the age restriction)

Best done by starting at the Glenbrook end. There is a new carpark at the entrance to the National Park. (Note that there is now a coin machine parking meter) You can ride up to Woodford (26km each way) and then have a great fast run back finishing with the singletrack. There is a stinker of a steep...

Re: Toughest hill in Sydney (NSW)

The last 1km dog leg section up to the lookout on the Saddleback Mountain climb near Jamberoo is a shocker (Brokeback Mountain according to Tim). The lower bit of the Cottage Point hill (just off the Akuna Bay / West Head loop). This is made harder by the fact that a Jacaranda drops petals all over ...

Re: SRAM Red 2013

I took the plunge and bought the new SRAM Red 2012 to go on the frame I am building up.

I ended up buying a set of HED Ardennes wheels provately from a guy who won them as a race prize

The bike is being built up at Velofix.

Can't wait to throw a leg over

Clover gets the green light to finish the CBD bikeways

SMH 14/11/12 "In an ironic twist, Barry O'Farrell's push to take control of transport in Sydney's CBD may finally complete Clover Moore's network of bike lanes. Despite the Premier's hostility to the Lord Mayor's plans for the city, a committee set up by Mr O'Farrell gave fresh momentum on Wedn...

Good luck with the Romin. I liked it at first but the tip of the saddle was too wide for me.

Offer still stands if you want to try any of the other saddles in the future.

Greg Having tried lots of saddles over the years I can offer a few for you to test for a couple of weeks if you like. I have banished the following saddles to my old commuter, old road bike or the MTB but you are welcome to try them out. Lite 209 - Just didn't work for me. Many swear by them though....

One for the DHBC bike mechanics

Has anyone had any first hand experience with the new SRAM Red 2013 Groupset.

I am building up a bike at the moment and it looks good but I am interested in hearing any feedback from people in the know.

Thanks

Next time you are at a set of traffic lights on the bike look down and it is highly likely you will see a strip of blackened tensile steel, app 150 - 180mm long, app 3mm wide.

What are they?

I priced up the Belgium C2 with Chris King R45's Sapim spokes etc. Was in the range of $1200-1300. Thanks for the kind offer Chris but I wont endanger your wheels. The last time I was 62kg Neville Wran was Premier.

I like the look of the Ardennes SL with the extra spokes called the 'Stallion' option. A rather more marketable title than the more apt 'Clysdedale'.

An interesting tip given to me by a XC motocross racer / mtb rider If you are coming into a corner and you want to scrub speed and not have the rear lock up is to put the rear brake on and pedal against it. It sounds really counter-intuitive but it really seems to works. The rear then grabs the road...
