Re: Spring Ride October 2013

I did the 50km last year and quite enjoyed it for the ride through the city, I was right at the front of the group though so I didn't get caught up in the nightmarish traffic behind. I'm not sure why I'd want to do 50 more km in the form of multiple laps of SOP, it's not like it's a race or anything...

Yeah getting a good position is always hard, especially when you don't want to put your safety at risk to hold a good one (when so many people seem happy to do dangerous things to get ahead). On that second descent I managed to time it well and take a turn just as we got onto the putty road and so I...

Not too well unfortunately, 41:32 or something for the 25km course. A little slower than my first time riding the course which is actually my pb. My tips are, get a good warm up (to the point where you think you've overdone it, you probably haven't) and go easy for the first 10 minutes or so, if your starting pace feels hard you've way overblown it, if it feels too easy it's probably about right.

Video of me crashing my fixie, Saturday slowies

Hi, does anybody have the video of me crashing my fixie on sprinters hill after saturday slowies a few weeks ago? I remember there was a helmet cam in use behind me and I'd kinda like to see the footage (just for laughs, I wasn't seriously hurt or anything).

Heffron Tuesdays

Anybody else going to race Heffron Tuesdays? I'm going to give tomorrow a miss while I go buy a new helmet to sacrifice to the concrete but I'm keen for next week.

Re: RBCC Racing @ Heffron

How'd you get dropped, were you doing too much work on the front or rubber-banding on the back? Personally I find it easier to stay in the first 6 or 10 riders, you have to do turns on the front but you don't have to keep accelerating after corners in the rubber band.

Re: Crank length

In my experience crank length doesn't make any obvious difference within reason. I have 165mm cranks on the fixie, 170mm on the commuter and 172.5mm on the road bike. Between those three values I can't tell the difference.

Hmm yeah traditionally I don't like backpacks but maybe I'll take one with me on slowies, if the cafe is opening around that time they might even be nice enough to let me store it there...

Hmm I have to decide if I should go to saturday slowies tomorrow with a change of clothes in my panniers and hang around after to meet you guys (which would mean I can't ride my fixie for maximum hipster points) or if I should skip slowies and just ride there on the fixie, or third option do slowies...

Re: Sidi v Shimano Shoe Sizing

I don't know about you but I found the stock insoles to be appalling, I had sore feet after my first ride with them. Luckily I get them replaced with some Superfeet one when I had my bike fit just after getting the shoes and they're very comfy now.

Here's my garmin chart from fasties to waterfall yesterday:

Average 175, max 199, I was pushing very hard to hold onto the group most of the time.

Re: Waterfall runs and sustained Heart Rate levels

I don't really need to lose weight, I'm 64-65kg and about 170cm tall and don't have much spare fat. I guess if I had to pick a goal it would be increasing my continuous and sprint power outputs but I don't think there's a specific heart rate range for that :P

So does this mean that there's no SUVELO race at Heffron this Sunday? I only ask because it's apparently on every third Sunday of the month which would be this coming one.

Re: Waterfall runs and sustained Heart Rate levels

I really don't know about maximum heart rate. I'm 25 so by the formula my max should be 195 and my target range should be 98-150 or there-abouts. My resting heart rate is about 60-65 bpm but if I even think about getting on the bike it's up to 100, my averages for my commute are around 175-180. In t...

D, D, C or D, E, C

I was one of the group who skipped RNP and just went to Waterfall and back. Was hurting from a ride the day before and I was being punished by the wind so I don't think I could have handled RNP.

I've raced there a fair few times but I probably won't be there the next two or three weeks. If you've never raced there I suggest going a bit early, the juniors race from 2pm but you can generally roll around the track early if you stay out of the way.

Unfortunately I'm now out. I was riding out to the cafe and with about 2km to go I hit a monster pothole and got a pinch flat, then when I replaced the tube with my spare I put my 2 CO2's into it but it didn't hold pressure and I was boned. Haven't had a look at the spare yet to see why it wasn't ho...

It's a bit of a bad situation for all parties reading that.
